dermatologist appointment (Support Forum & Misc Topics)

» Well, Dr. Ash is treating me for a couple of things. First, he did a saliva
» test for adrenal fatigue. It was positive, so I am treating that with
» nutritional supplements. Second, although there is no test for it, he put
» me on a candida diet because he thought I may have a candida problem.
» Third, he did a test for low stomach acid, and mine is very low. All these
» things can cause hair loss, as well as other problems. He feels that these
» problems are the likely cause of my other health issues (hypoglycemia,
» hormone imbalances, low blood pressure, dizziness, brain fog) It makes
» sense to me. The adrenal glands help the sex glands produce hormones, mine
» are fatigued,so probably aren't able to regulate my hormones properly.
» Candida can cause many problems, too numerous to list. And low stomach
» acid causes the body to be unable to properly digest and therefore, absorb
» nutrients properly. So, it could be any of those things, or something else
» entirely I suppose. I have been taking the nutritional supplements for a
» few months, but the low stomach acid is a recent diagnosis, so even though
» I've been taking the supplements, they may not have been getting absorbed
» properly. I just started taking stomach acid supplements, which will
» hopefully help me to absorb them better. I do feel a lot better, but I
» still don't feel 100% better yet. I have been to Redmond in the past,
» although he is knowledgeable and very sympathetic, he prescribes the same
» thing for everyone: Yasmin and spiro. I couldn't tolerate the yasmin, so
» he gave me another bcp. I also refused the spiro, I just didn't want to
» take more synthetic drugs with possible side effects. The new bcp didn't
» help my hair either. I should mention, he doesn't take health insurance
» and it's $500 per visit. Plus he doesn't really ascribe to a holistic
» approach, which is what I feel I need. I don't know where to find a
» really good doctor who can help with hair loss, with all the dr's in NYC
» you'd think there would be a few who are experts in this problem, but I
» don't know who they are.

Thanks Amy for your response...sounds like you are becoming more knowledgable than most doctors about the complexity of the body & how the harmony of one system can affect the balance of others. This stuff is too complicated for people w/no medical background & we are at the mercy of these drs who do a similiar band aid approach for everyone. From your recommendation I think I should stay away from Redmond. I cannot tolerate BCP & do not want to go the synthetic drug route I also prefer a holistic approach when it comes to putting stuff in my body. I've done research on internet too & cannot find anyone besides Redmond who is supposedly an expert on women's HL w/o just prescribing Rogaine. Feel free to email me & keep me posted on how your treatment is going or if you just want to vent about how scary & depressing this HL nightmare. I'm at merle.shama@gmail.com.
