Miz Bea,
I got the urge and colored my hair TONIGHT! So far no bad stuff from the coloring. Hope it stay this way! I may never do this again, who knows. I just know I was wanting to see what happened. I see no sls in the coloring, but it does have coco betaine.

Back to your questions, I always try to avoid MSG and I never use aspertame. I confess to using splenda type soft drinks. I'm sure something bad will turn up in that too. But I will tell you something I do avoid, as I have ulcerative colitis and found out this is bad. I no longer eat products that have carageenan in them. It is in most ice creams and is suspected to give colon ulcers, cancer, etc. Of course you read conflicting reports about it but I've learned the only ice cream I eat is the Breyers Natural as the other brands all have carageenan...it gives it creamy consistency or something like that. I do believe there are LOTs of things we need to avoid in our foods and you will not do yourself harm to avoid a lot of the non-natural ingredients and additives. I admit to ignorance to a lot of the food no no's, I'm new to the cosmetic ones and firmly embrace all of the organic, natural products.

I'm shy of suppliments because of the UC but am beginning to take cod liver oil supplements and flax seed oil supplements (for cholesterol). And I'm beginnning to take probiotics because of the UC. So far I have been tolerating them well. I only take them as it is suggested they will help ward off flare ups. I do not know how the licorice root would affect me. I need to do lots of research into all supplements before I get brave enough to try them. So talk about being afraid of toxic substances that could affect the immune system, and I am all ears. As UC is an immune response I guess that is why I'm so keen on eliminating things from my world that could cause a negative immune response.
