Blood test results. Can you help with interpreting? (Menopause, Peri-menopause & Hair Loss)
Had results back yesterday.
Ferritin 23
FSH 16.7
LH 4.9
Prolactin 221
TSH 2.12 or 2.16 (can't read his writing)
T4 13.9
Free Iron 15
Cortisol 500
Testosterone 0.6
Androlactone 5.8
DHEAS 2.9
Seems iron is very low so I have to work at getting that up but whilst it may slow down hair loss doesn't appear to re-grow hair. Was told that I don't have poly cystic ovaries or thyroid problems but thyroid stuff looks borderline to me. Any idea? The only interesting thing I learned was that my testosterone is VERY low! There I was thinking it must be incredibly high to have caused all this hair loss.
Endo I saw admitted that he was out of his depth with hair loss stuff and had to ask senior consultant who suggested I take Finasteride (5mgs) and Spiro (25mgs) and then increase in 6 months if well tolerated. He said I shouldn't expect to see any results for at least a year!! I'm disinclined to take these meds as can have nasty side effects and may not even work. Alternative is to let hair continue to fall out, wear a wig/hairpiece and hope that someone will come up with a way to switch hair follicles back on. Haven't decided what to do as yet as I'm very confused and upset; there's an apple product from Japan that they claim 80% success rate for (nothing new, saw it mentioned on this site under natural products) plus I've also heard it claimed that this whole baldness thing is to do with our poor tolerance of follicular mites!!!!!
By the way, nobody so much as looked at my scalp. I suggested scalp biopsy on both occasions but he said no need. Maybe too expensive for NHS?
Calysto is located in [NA] and he is available to meet: YES
