My Story-TE, Dermatitis, or what? (Scalp Inflammation, Irritations & Dermatitis)

posted by GT, 04.04.2007, 12:04

Jenna same deal here minus the oil. I was diagnosed with it due to heavy yeast on my scalp. I'd love to talk in depth with you about this if you get teh message please email me heavensbreathnursery@walla.com

» Here is my story. I would be interested to hear if any of you had similar
» stories or any ideas as I can't seem to get any kind of real diagnosis
» from a doctor--they are just patronizing and don't seem to have a definite
» idea...
»
» Last April, I noticed that my scalp became very, very oily--like I dipped
» my head in grease. This was accompanied with pain like my hair was really
» thousands of little needles poking into my head. I was really confused and
» thought it would pass. I was also experienceing acne on my face and chest
» like I never had before even in my teens--I'm 30 now. I started to notice
» hair loss/thinner appearance later in the summer. I saw 2 derms during the
» summer who both told me that I had sebhorreic dermatitis and that I should
» just relax since I wouldn't go bald. This was after looking at my head
» for about 1 minute each. I had blood work from both doctors, and they
» both said everything was normal. I didn't get copies, but I wish I did
» now.
»
» During the fall/winter months (September-January) the shedding was really
» bad. I usually loose 10-30 hairs per day with brushing, etc., but the
» number was over 100 hairs every day. When I ran my hands through my hair
» in the shower, I would get a handful where I usually would get 1-3. I
» have always had very think hair, and have only experienced loss one other
» time when I was 14 and crash dieting. This was not as serious and
» resolved on its own. I feel like at this point, I have lost 50% or so of
» my total hair.
»
» By using sebhorreic dermatitis shampoo, loprox, and luxiq steroid mousse,
» I feel that I am finally getting control of the condition. I have a lot
» of stress/depression/anxiety, and I am still trying to deal positively
» with that, but at least the scalp pain seems to only recur if I don't wash
» my hair right on schedule. The shedding seems to have stopped and returned
» to normal. There is balding in my family, so I know that is a possibility,
» but this just doesn't seem right. I think I see re-growth, in the form of
» some new hair all between a half inch to 2 inches long, but who knows.
» I'm grasping at straws b/c I am worried about my appearance at work. I
» have a very public job. This is not so good for the self esteem & anxiety
» either...
»
» Sorry for the long post, but any thoughts????
