fungus or yeast (Scalp Inflammation, Irritations & Dermatitis)
» I have read that an overgrowth of fungus or yeast on the scalp can cause
» hairloss, would this be obvious to the eye? My head it very itchy at the
» moment and I am losing hair but I think the itchy is stress because I am
» losing hair. If it was fungus or yeast would I be able to see it on my
» scalp? Thanks
I have annoying itchy scalp almost every day - that's the first symptom I had that something was wrong. I started to lose my hair a few months after the itch started. Anti-androgen therapy (Yasmin and spiro) helped reduce but not eliminate the itch. Right now I am using Head and Shoulders for sensitive scalp and Clobetasol lotion (prescription) as my topical regimen to get rid of the itch - works very well. Nizoral ruins color-treated hair and after a while it ended up irritating my scalp so I quit using it. My derm says that my hair won't grow back until I get rid of the inflammation.
BTW I noticed that propylene glycol makes the irritation a lot worse so you might want to check if anything you put on your scalp has that ingredient. It's a common irritant.
