Thanks
to Dr. Woods and Dr. Woods Campbell who invented body hair
transplant (BHT), people with hair loss can now transplant
their body hair (eg: chest, leg, arm hair etc) onto their
scalp. The results can be as natural as your normal scalp
hair. This new technique was invented and pioneered by Dr.
Woods & Woods Campbell and is validated in the British Journal of
Plastic Surgery.
This section is strictly for the discussion of BHT or any
hybrid procedures that involve BHT. |

Dr. Woods: Repair of Repair of Pluggy, Uneven and Scarred
Hairline with FUE. This is a repair case with 2000 FUE grafts. Dr. Woods
soften the pluggy, uneven and scarred hairline of this patient after 3
sessions. The repair was done by utilizing nape hair, chest and
abdominal hair. None of the prior pluggy grafts were removed in the
process. You can also see the chest donor pictures in this discussion.

Dr. Cole: Body Hair Transplant Megasession 5000 Grafts on the
Crown Grown Out Results plus Amazing Leg Hair to Anterior Temples 2.5
Months Results. This is the first body hair transplant megasession grown
out results posted in the forum. The patient had about 5000 BHT grafts
placed into 80 square cm of bald crown. The result is exceptionally
natural with very respectable yield. This discussion also features an
attempt to lower the patient’s hairline with about 1700 grafts of leg
hair as well as a 2.5 month post op results from leg hair transplanted
into the anterior temples.

Dr. Woods: 5,500 FUE/BHT grafts, 4 Weeks Results, Grafts Started
Growing Immediately Post Op
. 4 weeks post op photos of a Norwood 6 patient who had received 2,500
scalp donor hair and 3,000 chest and abdominal/loin hair. Total of 5,500
grafts. The last session was 10 days ago to the frontal hairline. The
scabs were removed immediately prior to these photographs being taken,
hence the minor pinkness to the frontal hairline. Abdominal hair was
placed to the crown 2 weeks ago prior to these photographs. A close up
shot is provided and some of the scabs are still present. There is good
growth right from the start. All graft hair shafts were 1 to 2 mm in
length. As is clearly seen, many hair have extended by several
millimeters since the procedure.

Dr. Arvind: Combination of a Dense Packed Hairline with Hair
Piece Behind Using Body Hair Transplantation, 1500 grafts. Norwood 6 patient underwent a 1500 graft BHT
session. The grafts are being extracted from the thighs and the calves
of the patient. The plan is to place 1500 body hair grafts this time
round to create a narrow but dense hairline zone. Patient’s intention
is to continue to wear the hair piece after this 1500 grafts procedure.

Dr. Arvind: HairSite’s First Documented Case of Donor Exchange
Method (DEM), over 1000 Body Hair grafts used in Donor Site.
Multi-modules treatments and HairSite’s first documented case of Donor
Exchange Method utilizing over 1000 body hair grafts on the patient’s
donor site. 1.Closing of the temples- 2628 FUSE/fue grafts used in
the front hairline and temple areas to create a dense pack hairline as
well as to close the temple angles. 2.Donor exchange (DEM)-
over1000 body hair grafts used for putting into the scalp donor
areas-1048 DEM grafts to be precise. The grafts were randomly
distributed in the scalp donor areas. The body hair used for DEM were
from the thighs and the calves. 3.He had got a strip surgery done
previously and the strip scar was also transplanted into. 255 scalp FUSE
grafts were used for the purpose.

Dr. Umar: Body Hair Transplant Methodology: Anagen Hair
Selection. Some Body hair transplant (BHT) practitioners have already
adopted in their methodology, the harvesting of only actively growing
hair for BHT purposes. This idea is premised on the supposition that
even more anagen hair would be derived for transplantation by this
approach. The popular modality used to achieve this has entailed so far,
shaving the body donor area several days before harvesting. We conducted
a cursory study to put this assumption to the test.

Dr. Arvind: Body
Hair Placement & Quantity for Optimal Results? An intriguing

characteristics.

Dr. Arvind: First
Ever Donor Exchange method Performed on Topjimmy. The Donor Exchange
Method appears as a logical course to follow for those who : 1. People
who do not wish to use body hair over the bald recipient sites but have
a degree of hairloss that is too severe to fill with the scalp donor
hair alone. For these individuals this avenue opens the possibility of
harvesting the scalp donor areas to a greater extent while still
minimizing chances of visible thinning in the back of the scalp. 2.
People who may have very thin and fine body hair growth. These
individuals may like to use the very thin/fine hair in the scalp donor
sites rather than the recipient/bald areas. The first patient to have
such a procedure performed, albeit in a very limited way is a forum
member- TopJimmy.

Dr. Arvind: Shaving
the Donor Site prior to Body Hair Transplant Procedures. According to
Dr. Arvind, shaving the donor areas to get the actively growing hair is
one of the keys to improved yield. This discussion attempts to analyze
the reasons for efficacy of shaving. What if one were not to shave the
donor areas? 1. Will it lead to the same yield/results albeit over a
longer duration? 2. If yes, than what should be the extra time that will
be required to notice most of the transplanted hair to start growing? 3.
If no, should shaving the body donor areas be considered an
important/essential requirement of body hair transplant. 4. In a patient
where, for some reason, the body donor hair could not be shaved, is
there an alternative way to determine which hair are the telogen/non
growing hair?

Dr. Arvind: Donor
Exchange Method, Birth of a new FUE Hair Transplant Protocol. Forum
member engages Dr. Arvind in a discussion about using body hair graft to
seal off the scalp donor sites after harvesting. According to Dr. Arvind,
the potential benefits for such an experiment are: 1. If the body hair
in that particular patient takes on the characteristics of the scalp
hair, the patient could potentially multiply his donor supply. 2. If the
body hair, in a particular patient, does not take on acceptable level of
scalp hair characteristics, it can still provide much needed coverage
even with extensive scalp hair extractions.

Dr. Umar: 0.5mm -
1.2mm? A Discussion on Optimal FUE Instrument Sizes. Frequently it is
asked what instrument sizes are necessary for successful and harm-free
FUE extractions. According to Dr. Umar, most scalp follicles can be
successfully extracted with 0.75mm-.80mm sized instruments. However on
rare occasions a 1mm sized instrument is called for, comparatively
however, more frequent use of 1mm sized instruments is made in other
non-scalp body areas (as in during body hair transplantation BHT) for
various reasons.

Dr. Umar: Scalp
Hair, Body Hair & Hair Curl. While training on FUSE technique with
Dr Poswal, Dr. Umar underwent an 8 day BHT session. The goal was to 1.
Further breakup a strip scar that has been previously improved by 600+
scalp FUE. 2. To revisit NW area if leg hair harvesting proved feasible.
The following was done during the procedure: 1. To the scar, a
combination of scalp and body hair was utilized, about 160 grafts in
all. Areas with the least scar camouflage (10-15% of whole scar) were
targeted.

FUE into Scar, 1 Yr Post Op Photos, Recipient & Donor. This patient
is 33 years old. He had the following BHT/FUE procedures with Dr. Jones:
1. 500 FUE Feb 17,03 (142 head, 358 chest) 2. 500 FUE Feb 23 ,04
(260 head, 240 chest) 3. Patient is having another 500 chest FUE
with Dr. Jones the day when these pictures were posted. These grafts are
all being planted into a wide donor scar resulting from several strip
surgeries. Readers can see not only the recipient site but also the
donor site, ie: patient’s chest.

Zone Harvesting: Sample Pictures. Donor site pictures of a patient who
recently underwent BHT about 2 months ago. The donor follicles
were extracted from the patient’s armpit, abdomen and pubic
areas. These pictures are taken when the patient shaved his armpit
2 weeks back. The healing in the so called “wet zone” areas was
noticed to be faster and with NO scarring as compared to the chest. No
complications noted.

Dr. Arvind: BHT Guy
5041 BHT with Dr Arvind 1 Month Update. “I had 5041 BHT all from my
legs with Dr Arvind in New Delhi. I have shed the majority of my grafts
and unfortunately the picture doesn’t show the full story. I have a
large number of tiny hairs sprouting and I can feel stubble over most of
my scalp when I rub my fingers lightly over it. The redness on my scalp
is not noticeable to the naked eye, and from a short distance it looks
as if I have a light rash on my legs. The upper calf and lower thigh
areas have healed much quicker than other areas. …”

Dr. Cole: Latest Update from DJ, One of the Worst Repair
Cases Ever. DJ is one of Dr. Cole’s repair patients. He is by
far the worst repair case I have seen in person. Dr. Cole had to
deal with a head that has gone through 13 small strip surgeries of 50
grafts each, 3 scalp lifts that produced 3 huge scars down the center
all the way to back, 4 scar revisions from ear to ear that caused even
wider scarring, and last but not least, tattooing all over the head that
eventually turned his scalp color to blue. We are showing the part where
Dr. Cole grafted the ears and the neck area that had almost no hair.

amazing is that there is much more to come. According to Dr. Cole’s
team, there are little grafts growing on his whole crown even after 14
month.

Dr. Arvind Poswal: Evaluating the Quality of Donor Hair from Body
Hair Transplantation. In a recent Body Hair Transplant procedure,
Dr. Arvind Poswal evaluated the quality of donor hair from the patient’s
thigh areas. After careful observations, Dr. Arvind Poswal recommends
that the following 2 steps be followed when performing Body Hair
Transplant:
1) The patient be asked to shave off the donor area a couple of days
before starting the surgery.
2) Do not choose the non growing hair as well as the very slow growing
hair for transplant purposes.
