Few realize that certain
drugs, medications, dietary supplements or even herbal remedies that
we take can cause hair loss. While each individual's response to
certain medications is different, it is important to be aware of the
fact that the medications you are taking could be causing your hair
loss.
We have compiled a list of drugs or dietary supplements that have been
reported to cause hair loss in some people. Please note that this is
by no means a comprehensive list of all drugs and supplements that may
cause hair loss. In addition, not everyone experiences hair loss as a
result of using these products. As we always say, please check with
your doctor for more accurate information and diagnosis.

Anticoagulents:
Coumarin, Heparin

Antidepressants:
Amphetamines, Tricyclics, St. John's Wort

Antithyroid
agents: Carbimazole, Iodine, Thiocyanate, Thiouracil. Note that
over or under active thyroid activity can lead to hair loss. As a
result, thyroid medications, when taken inappropriately, will lead
to hair loss.

Arthritics
medications: penicillamine, Ridaura (auranofin), Indocin (indomethacin),
Naprosyn (naproxen), Clinoril (sulindac), Folex (methotrexate).

Beta
Blocker Drugs: Tenormin (atenolol), Lopressor (metoprolol),
Corgard (nadolol), Inderal (propranolol), Blocadren (timolol) -
these are drugs mainly for people with high blood pressure.

Cholesterol
medication: Atromis-S (clofibrate), Lopid (gemfibrozil) - these
are mainly cholesterol lowering medications.

Epilepsy
medications: this would include certain anticonvulsants such as
Tridione (trimethadione).

Parkinson
Medications: Dopar, Larodopa (levodopa).

Steroids

Testosterone
boosters: dietary supplements that are loaded with amino acids
which can indirectly boost one's testosterone levels. For example

Ulcer
medicatioins: Tagamet (cimetidine), Zantac (ranitidine), Pepcid (famotidine).

Vitamin
A derivatives - Accutane (isotretinoin), Tegison (etretinate).

important to realize that even your doctor may not be able to tell you
if a particular medication can cause hair loss. The best way is to
