Some of the most typical symptoms associated with Wilson's Syndrome are:
As you can see, Wilson's Syndrome can affect almost every aspect of our lives and it is not surprising that many doctors fail to diagnose this condition properly. Also, this condition is not life threatening and sufferers can usually go on with their lives without even knowing that they have the syndrome. There is, however, a common thread to people who are suffering from this syndrome - body temperature. Specifically, if you have any of the above symptoms and a body temperature of less than 98.6 F, then it is likely that you have Wilson's Syndrome. Exactly what is Wilson's Syndrome ? According to Dr. Robert
F. Cathcart, "this is a disorder where the cells of the body are unable to convert
the inactive thyroid hormone, T4, into the more active hormone, T3. Wilson's Syndrome
itself does not alter the thyroid hormone tests. It may exist in association with true
hypothyroidism, however. In these cases, thyroid tests may be abnormal but the usually
prescribed thyroid hormones may not entirely solve the problem". Dr. Wilson further
explained that "virtually all of the chemical reactions that take place in our bodies
are catalyzed by enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that are dependent upon their shape, or
conformation, for their activity. When enzymes are too hot they are too loose, and when
they are too cold they are too tight. In either extreme the enzymes are not the right
shape and cannot function optimally. When the body temperature is too low, nearly all of
the enzymes in the body function less effectively. This can cause a very wide variety of
complaint". For people who want to do a quick examination themselves, Dr. Cathcart suggest taking your temperature with an accurate glass/mercury thermometer orally 3 hours after getting up and every 3 hours times 3 for a couple of days. If your temperature averages a few 10ths of a degree below 98.6F., and you have several of the above symptoms, you may have Wilson's Syndrome. Once diagnosed, Wilson's Syndrome can be easily treated. Many doctors suggest T3 therapy in order to get their patient's temperatures back up to normal to feel well again. T3 therapy involves the use of a prescription thyroid medication called T3 that is prepared with a sustained-release agent.
