Estrogen may play a role in hair loss, according to Robert C.
Smart, a toxicologist at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The findings emerged
during Smart's team's research of estrogen's role in the carcinogenicity of a pesticide.
An estrogen blocking compound, when applied on mice, is found to
promote hair growth.
The findings were reported in October 29, 1996's Proceedings of
the National Academy of Sciences.
