  • Estrogen may play a role in hair loss, according to Robert C. Smart, a toxicologist at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The findings emerged during Smart's team's research of estrogen's role in the carcinogenicity of a pesticide.
  • An estrogen blocking compound, when applied on mice, is found to promote hair growth.
  • The findings were reported in October 29, 1996's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
