Azaleic acid with Crinagen  - This is probably the most talked about treatment in 1998 since Propecia. Many have already seen this treatment being reported in various web sites and discussion groups for hair loss. One reason why so many people rush to this combination treatment is that it is affordable compared to Propecia. Also, the side effects are minimal, other than the possibility of scalp irritation if too much Azelaic acid is used.   And of course, the most overwhelming reason why people are fighting over Azelaic acid and Crinagen these days is the report in the British Journal of Dermatology that when Azelaic acid is combined with Zinc & B6, it becomes the most potent 5-alpha reductase inhibitor with a success rate of 98%.

While the three agents in this combination treatment (ie: Azelaic acid, Zinc & B6) are very common substances, it is by no means easy formulating the three agents together in one lotion. The problem is with Zinc, which is known to be a difficult agent to dissolve. It is very difficult to formulate a "chemically stable" lotion when zinc is one of the key ingredient.  For those of you who have tried will readily agree that when mixing Zinc with any other substances in a liquid vehicle, precipitates and residues will form and the potency of the agents in the lotion will be compromised. Usually the precipitates is in the form of white clusters.

However, things have looked so much brighter now that we have found Crinagen - a chemically stable ZINC-B6 topical lotion formulated by Dr. Razack. I have been using Azelaic acid in conjunction wtih Crinagen for almost three months and am extremely happy with the results. I have seen moderate hair regrowth on the top and even frontal hair lines, which is very unusual since it is the hardest to generate regrowth along the hair lines. I am not talking about "peach fuzz", but noticeable regrowth. My hair loss is now down to about 20 hairs a day and I can't be more pleased with that.  I apply Azelaic acid sparingly about 5 minutes before using Crinagen. It is a little sticky, but other than that, I see no precipitates on my scalp - which is a good sign.

Warning: When I started incorporating this combination treatment in my regimen, I used Azelaic acid and Crinagen every night and probably got over zealous and applied too much Azelaic acid. I developed a slight "burn" on my scalp as a result. After that, I restricted to using Azelaic acid sparingly only once every other night followed by Crinagen and the results have been remarkable.

While I believe that Azelaic with Crinagen has made a big difference for me, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what treatment I am responding to. The reason is that besides Azelaic acid and Crinagen, I also use many other treatments on a daily basis. So it could be the synergies among all the medications that generate the regrowth in my case. Besides Azelaic acid and Crinagen, I also use Propecia, 5% Minoxidil, Proxiphen, ProstaGuard, Nano shampoo, Nisim Shampoo, Nizoral Shampoo, Zinc and B6 dietary supplement.

Be realistic:  not everyone respond to the treatment. I have received emails from some readers who said that they had used Azelaic acid and did not respond to the medication at all. However, in all cases, they only used Azelaic acid alone without any kind of Zinc-B6 topical lotions. So that could be a factor too.
