| With its reported abilities to cure baldness, treat
prostate enlargement and enlarge women's breasts', Saw Palmetto Berry has been enjoying a
sustainable surge in demand in recent years. Worldwide demand for this dietary supplement
has never been so great. The Saw Palmetto business is further aided by the abundance in
clinical studies, especially in Germany, claiming its effectiveness in treating hair
loss and prostate enlargement. In Florida, people are getting paid up to 50cents a pound
to pick these berries in Florida state parks, even though it is illegal. According to Gerald Gettel of Saw Palemtto Trading in Frostproof, after picking, the berries are dried and about 70% are shipped overseas. Most berries are processed for their oil. The oil is then put in a soft gel capsule much like a vitamin E pill. Others are simply grounded to powder and then put in capsules. It is important to distinguish the two different types. In most health food stores, the Saw Palmetto pills are either labeled as "Saw Palmetto Extract" or simply "Saw Palmetto". Saw Palmetto Extract contains the oil that has been extracted from the berries. It is more expensive and is reported to be more potent than Saw Palmetto powder. Dosage requirment may also vary depending on whether you are taking the extract or the powder. Please note that most companies will not label the ingredients as Saw Palmetto "powder". A general rule of thumb to distinguish the extract from the powder: the extract are almost always in the form of a "soft gel" capsule.
