SALICYCLIC ACID About Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid or 2-hydroxybenzoic acid can be found in many over the counter hair and skin products. It is commonly used for the treatment of acne, dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis of the skin and scalp, calluses, corns, common warts, and plantar warts. Depending on the dosage form and strength of the preparation, Salicylic acid is sometimes available as a prescription product too. Existing medical problems or skin and scalp conditions (eg: blood vessel disease, diabetes mellitus, and inflammation or infection of the skin) may affect the use of salicylic acid, especially if you are using a 5% or stronger preparation. Salicylic acid can be toxic when consumed in large amounts. Avoid the eyes, mouth, lips, inside the nose, genitals, and anal areas when applying salicylic acid topical. Brand Name: Can be found in varying strengths in many hair and skin products. Side effects: Most common side effects are skin irritations. However, patients should also be wary of possible signs of salicylic acid poisoning if they experience severe headache, rapid breathing, and continuous ringing or buzzing in ears. Topical application: Use topically as directed. Vendors
