Improperly planted grafts... (Hair Transplant)

Sometimes a transplanted hair will not come out in the direction that it is intended to. More commonly seen in straight haired transplants from less than experienced clinics, a "kinky" look can occur from time to time. In my opinion this is seen more in FUE than strip grafts and in my own opinion this is seen more so in one haired grafts. Why?

Here is a theory:

The hairs are improperly placed. They are not placed properly in the slit(the holes created for the graft). Or the slit is too short for the graft. In any case here is a crud diagragm I created to try to illustrate this. Please don't laugh at my inability to draw.

This is actually something that is debated over and over.... It turns out that sometimes... the technician while implanting a graft... needs to sort of place the graft... pull it out slightly and place it back down inside the slit. The reason is... is because if the bulb of the follicle is bent at the bottom of the slit... the hair will grow curly.

Now there are two theories about this fact.

1. The Follicle will straighten itself out over a long period of time.

2. The follicle will remain "kinked".

I cannot say with any confidence and with my biology background/experience less a medical degree say if #1 or #2 is true.

:-D

Improperly planted grafts...

I forgot to say that sites are not made completely vertical. I used a vertical explanation as an example.;-)
