Dr. Woods - Diamond6, 1000 grafts beard hair transplant, 10 days (Hair Transplant) Thread locked |
Dr. Woods' patient. Daniel (aka Diamond6). Beard hair transplant, 1st 10 days post op. This patient is from the U.S.
This patient had approximately 17 previous operations which included scalp reductions, flaps and strip excision.
He only has very sparse body hair which will be required to repair his frontal hairline. This meant there was no alternative other than beard hair to repair the massive scars on the back of his head which he otherwise had to disguise with a hair piece.
Beard hair can be very coarse, feel ‘sharp or prickly’ and look unnatural on the frontal scalp region but can be used to repair donor scars.
Please note that the after shots were taken by the patient which is why they are darker. The pics hvae not been retouched in any way. Patient is from the U.S, he will also be sending Dr. Woods more progress photos over the next few weeks and will return for more surgery on the frontal hairline in October.
Surgery Performed by Dr Ray Woods, Inventor and Pioneer of FUE & BHT.

INTRODUCTION from Diamond6, copied from an earlier post.

"I Just returned from Sydney, Australia and had two Corrective surgeries with Dr. Woods. I first want to say that Dr. Woods is a truly genuine human being and a very honest Doctor. He tells you the truth right upfront with no BS. Something doctors in the states should have been doing for years. There are also no legal disclaimers, giving the doctors tremendous power in the legal sense. Also some posters have said his prices are high, NOT TRUE: I paid more in 1989 to Dr Brandy per session than I am paying now-2007! I have had 4 other surgeons operate on me and they all disfigured me. My history goes back to 1986 thru 1993. I had 4 sessions of punch grafts and 5 micro/minis-(Plugs) 4 scalp reductions( a bad joke!) and the brandy hairlift. All of these surgeries left me with a severely scarred scalp. When I went to Dr Woods, I thought nothing could be done but I was wrong. I had 1000 beard hairs inserted into my left side/right side and some in the back of my head. There is no donor hair left from my scalp thanks to the previous butchers! Yes beard hair is coarser but In my case there was no other choice. In fact if someone could tell me how to download the photos I will do so because noone could tell that my beard was touched. I will be going back in october for the frontal area to be done with Body hair- which is softer and more appropriate for this area. The crown will be done with a combo and one scar near the nape area with beard hair also. Dr Woods is a caring individual whom I beleive that many other surgeons have a professional jealousy of. He is the one who invented BHR and FUE's so I can understand why other surgeons feel insecure. He truly cares about his patients as he understands their needs. I am looking forward to my next procedures. Good Luck to everyone out there and if I were you take a trip to sydney and see him or sign the medical release forms and best of luck! "

Say what? With all due respect, this is one of the worst transplant cases I have ever seen. This is an example of someone who should have never ventured into the world of hair transplants. The "surgeons" who originally did the procedures on this guy, given his advanced NW scale and prognosis for further loss, should have their licenses revoked. It is a shame that he is now so full of scars and cannot just "shave it and forget it". If 99% of people received results like this, the HT industry would have gone out of business a long time ago, but the reality is that it is a booming business.

I called several lawyers after I was butchered nearly thirty years ago.
None of them was interested in handling my case.
One lawyer told me juries aren't sympathetic to people who have hair transplants done.
And from the way one lawyer was talking, I could see he assumed I just wanted my money back!
BTW, I don't think I'm quite as bad as this guy--but I can't tell because I never buzzed what's left of my hair, so the damage to my scalp isn't that easily seen.

After I saw a news expose on Thomas/Elliott, it was only then did I find out that the janitor was the one placing my grafts. I looked into suing, but the lawyer told I would have to bear the expense of expert witnesses along with the cost of the suit, with no guarantee of winning. The janitor's only experience was he did a little taxidermy in the past.
The HT business is strictly a money game.

Doctors go into HT because it's easy money and hard to get sued.
There was one surgeon who botched some surgeries, and the AMA told him you can't do any more operations except for HTs (implication is HT's not dangerous so let's give him a way to still make a living off his MD).

scared? |
Because the HT industry is completely unregulated, you can commit cosmetic murder and get away with it....
Depending upon the disclaimer, Patients who have been seriously harmed are often afraid they can be sued by their doctor for telling the truth on the net.
But if the disclaimer is handed to you to sign before you have been given reasonable time to assess the implications of the document, LEGAL SOURCES TELL ME THAT IT IS NOT VALID.
But mounting a legal case is expensive , public, time consuming and to some victims, embarrasing.
BTW, I just saw a post about the feller ronjon fiasco, TITLED, "SCARED OF WOODS.." .
About 2 years ago I presented conclusive evidence and photos showing the lies and deception these two buddies got up to.
I might add that ronjon once asked if he could do promotional work for me . I declined, but he ominously stated " I could be very good for you...or..".
I could gather the evidence, hire laywers fly to NYC and sue . But they know that it is simply not practical for me to do so.
But in this industry, who your enemies are is the most revealing
And judging the calibre of those who attack and lie about me , such as feller etc , I am flattered.

I had no problem extracting beard hair since 1999. But I did not utilise it due to
1. potential facial scarring
2. looking and feeling unnatural
3. I always found an alternatie
Chest , abdomen, back, arms, wrists are good choices in that order.
Legs are highly variable and prone to extremely high transection rates. And apart from specific patients with good donor in specific and limited areas, it’s a flimsy result and a waste of time for many.
Harvesting from the “sweat zones” , i.e. armpit and pubic areas is , in my opinion, medically negligent .
And that leaves the facial/neck hair .
It is the last chance for many who need a good result.
But I do not embrace it.
I approach it with extreme caution and respect.
What I care about is , if things go wrong, what is the worst possible outcome and is it worth the risk.
That decision is taken slowly , carefully and with full cognisance of all the facts, positive outcomes and side effects

Dr Woods,
I think your post makes a lot of sense (as it usually does).
I do not have any real faith in BHT at present but clearly you believe in it up to a point.
What I would like to know is WHY you think leg hair is so inferior? What is it about leg hair (which is actually the best body hair I have) which means it doesn't work well?
Thanks.

»
» What I would like to know is WHY you think leg hair is so inferior? What
» is it about leg hair (which is actually the best body hair I have) which
» means it doesn't work well?
»
» Thanks.
Firstly' look at the evidence of leg hair growth.
A patient has his pre existing hair shaved for the before shot, then a whole bunch of scabs representing leg hair is displayed, and a little later, PRESTO , a miraculous result.
Firstly, Leg hair is encased in extremely "rubbery" flesh.
It can be removed intact, But only in certain sections , which is very limiting. The rest of the time, transection rates are massive, unless of course, a huge punch is used. In that case, a well trained chimp will gladly accept a few bananas and punch away.
But I am told that every now and then you strike a chimp with a moral conscience. So down the trap door with them.
Secondly, as I have said before, a length increase is possible but it is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to what you started with.
Length increase aside, "what you see is what you get" .
Now, there could be up to a 90% transection rate.
Don't believe me ? Then ask to see each follicle under magnification to ensure it is intact, and then examine your extraction sites.
That is part of my declaration of patient rights which has been practised for well over a decade. .
So if I am to attempt leg hair, I have this bad habit of sticking to the facts.
And if someone wants to challenge what I have just said, I suggest that they place a PATIENT INTERACTIVE MICROSCOPE where their mouth is.
But back to you SKYWALKER, if you have very little donor hair and resemble a bald OTHELLO, then I suggest you don't worry about it.
If you resemble a slim and fit Winston Churhill, then a well placed fine veneer can create a dignified, natural and handsome appearance.
But all bald men must see themselves as natural and dignified, and the whole hair thing must only be regarded as an optional extra.
And unless you do it with absolute safety and control, don't risk it. Spend the money on your children, family, home, business, girlfrien...I'll leave it there.

Dr. Ray Woods...
Maybe yo do or do not know me. I did not know this particular thread was going on and I just happened to run across it. I read every word you said. My opinions might not be significant as a technician because I know you do not believe in technicians. I understand why you don't.
Over the years Dr. Woods, I have been intrigued by FUE/woods technique. I am not a doctor, however I feel that as a technician I have had this drive inside me that wanted to know more about the science behind FUE/BHT and all of the hoopla involved and not just earn a stupid lowly salary. I worked in situations that allowed me as a technician to extract BHT hairs from every freakon part of the human body. Leg, chest, arm pit, pubic, facial, arm, practically every human body hair known to man.
In the beginning, I did not understand fully the scope of what I was doing as I extracted these hairs. I mean basic common sense and my biology degree told me to be gentle when extracting delicate body hairs and this small common knowledge is not shared by the average hair technician. Let's face it. Any monkey as you stated can pull out a piece of flesh. However you know and I know that there are a plethora of variables that lead to a successful BHT and then even if all of the planets line up, you might get a good transplant.
So what is the point of my dissertation. I completely agree with your stance over the years for being cautious in BHT. I know in my own experiences of the different BHT extraction points that transection rates vary, and not everyone is a candidate, and that robust hairs mean something. I worked for someone who did not take that into account and took patients money based on a hypothesis... not a tested significance. I know that there are clinics that are not taking these important points into account and continue to rip the unwary off.
You also state that folks are scared of being sued by the transplanting doctor for telling the truth. I am a technician being sued by the transplant doctor for telling the truth. It is a horrific event.
I also agree with you about Dr. A. I have been immensely critical of his work and it all has come from a gut feeling I have. I have gotten so much criticism for this and I am hoping this post is not deleted.
Anyway thank you for posting your feelings about BHT. Again you might not know me but I am a lowly technician sitting back, very enthusiastic about medicine, hair science and I agree with you.

Hello Dr. Woods |
Dr Woods i know maybe its not the best time...but i have sent my pictures for you through hairsite a long time back. Can i ask is there a chance that you travel abroad doing consultations for people that are not sure if they are good candidates and want to meet you in person? I am from greece and i guess there is no chance for you to come here but maybe in London or Italy or somewhere that i can come to see you...
i ve been in forums for years and researched so much and saw so many transplants from many doctors. Though i hate to praise transplant doctors because i am never sure and always sceptical, from all these things that i have seen, you are i believe the best choise.
But coming to Australia without knowing if a transplant is good for me and without knowing you in person is a big decision if in the end i decide not to go ahead with it. So i am wondering if you do what other doctors do that have consultations around the world? If not what can i do?

Dr. Woods,
I have never been to Australia.
From what I have read, the state of native australians is , what should I say ... pathetic, victimised. I dont know. You would know better. What do you think is the state of native/true australians? Are they are part of the mainstream? I hope they are not hounded into reservations... after all Australia, if I may suggest, belongs to them. No?
Before you speak about India, dont you think looking into the native australian settlements will be a good step. I think you will find a lot more things to be ashamed of...
Atleast, India belongs to Indians. Not Britons.
» And given the large number of attacking aggressive and misleading posts

What gives you such an idea?! If you see the results, the numbers of results alone should silence you.

See! At the very least, we do not have to depend on the mercy of any OTHER country.
BTW, maybe I understand... you lost to India in T20.
India is the T 20 champions and defeated australia in semis. I hope that was not the reason for your outburst.

Dear Dr. Woods,
I am glad you decided to embrace facial hair as a donor resource in suitable patients.
I wish you and your patient the very best.
Regards,
Dr. A
I believe ths statement was the spark
Dr.Arvind in all fairness and as an outside observer of forums through the years i have to say the following...reputation is built through the years and there are posters here who have been around for aaaaaages.
when you come in here and you tell the inventor of FUE and one of the first surgeons that used body hair successfully that you are glad that he embraced facial hair as a donor resource in a way that imply..."i told you so"...well lol... you just dont do that!!!Its obviously also that he did it on a case that there was no ther alternative, i hardly call that embrace as if i use it as a donor resource all the time to fill transplants with density even more or cover the crown with it
we have seen these years soooooooooo many surgeons picking up the techniques Woods pioneered and created and giving it another name FIT, the Umar procedure, the DHI implanter, the Fellerizer or whatever...and this might fool newbees but not long timers.

Hairtech, If you have something specific and logical to criticize the Arvind clinic than please come out and say it. I have noticed that you continue with slurs against the clinic or just back up Dr. woods racist taunts but with no basis. If you are referring to your belief that a photograph was doctored then having inspected it myself I can assure you that it was not altered. From now on, hairtech_ I would insist that you make criticisms with at least some basis. This is not a children's playground for bullies!

Thegreeks, I hear what you are saying but I see it like this.
Isaac Newton worked out the basic laws of physics; he was a genius and a difficult character. Nureyev was an artistic genius and a difficult selfish character. Salvador Dahli was an amazing artistic genius and a difficult arrogant character. Some would excuse racist or arrogant behaviour of geniuses. Dr. Woods sticks pins in peoples heads and extracts hair. He is not a genius. He took a five year course and chose a field that is considered the low hanging fruit. There is no excuse for his arrogance. He is just not that good. He is an inventor but his knowledge of physiology is not that great and he is no longer the head of a field. Bear this in mind. He did not discover the devils halo without making the mistake. He did not gain a view on his ability to transplant leg hair without attempting it.

Marco is absolutely right in regards to racist comments noone has the right to do that its awfull...
though what is also important is not to judje a doctor by his jokes or his fights with other doctors, I think i know though where Dr. Woods aim and what point he tries to make...i think the bottom line is "dont trust your head to a doctor in India which is a third world country and if something goes wrong you will have no protection whatsoever"...these are things that sometimes pass through the minds of posters in here.
I am absolutely disgusted when i see racist comments but i am not gonna let this change my mind as to where i see superiority and real pioneering, Woods is not an inventor that was surpassed he is in my mind by far the best FUE surgeon. so with this belief I am not gonna let a couple of surgeons with a short internet history (though a respected one) look like the good ethical guys that their country was attacked by woods, hairtech or whoever while Woods is the bad guy. Maybe if it was a different kind of forum but this is about transplants and everything else (unfortunately maybe) are just details...
But never the less marcos posr was needed urgently.Excellent post marco

Marco, Greek. One has to go way back to see what started all this back and forth between doctors. It's simple do a search. And yes it was a slight . So he made a comment back. Big freagin deal. Now what ever doctor you prefer is your own judgement. I just like to go with track record really.

This is where u r wrong |
Dr. Woods invented fue but did f' all to let other MDs know it. Dr. Woods admits he was afraid of scarring, so he did not do beard hair. Its the other doctors who did small little sessions to see how it works.
I dont believe he never had another donor depleted patient before diamond to use beard hair on. Its when the other doctors did beard hair, scarlessly, that he decided to follow suit.
Its one time that Dr. Woods picked up the techniques other doctors pioneered. He should be the one saying thank you, IMO.
That will be too much to expect.
But posting racist comments against Indians, to deflect attention, is not pardonable.
Dr. A is right when he welcomed Dr. Woods on changing his opinion about beard hair. That is what I call decency and style.
Dr. Woods should apologise for his blatantly racist comments against Indians.

When you search for a doctor, you search for one who is good. No matter his location. US is a great nation for sueing, but will I go to Bosley knowing all I know, just so I can try to sue him later?! No way.
I agree with Greek. This is a site for transplants. Not for posting racist judgements.

How it started |
"I had no problem extracting beard hair since 1999." Some people just read what they want I guess. This is in no way doing what the others do. Scarred area's . That is it nothing more. I do not think at this point of Woods career he has to re-invent himself. Now back to the comments. If Dr. A's comments where not condescending I don't know what is."Dear Dr. Woods,
I am glad you decided to embrace facial hair as a donor resource in suitable patients." Embrace? He is using it as a last resort on 1 certain area. If you look he is dead against planting on top. And he has made that clear on a few occasions after removing a mess on someone else head. You guy's with these comments act like this was the first go these doctors ever had. You know when this really all started? Go back a few yars when Dr. Woods asked doctors to take out leg hair. Well sure they did but remember the reult on Dr. Umar. 6000 leg hair? And the big supporters that Dr. A had for this? Optimist. Eternal Hope, Umar himself ric Gomez, List goes on. Well where are they all now? We all know how that turned out!.And the doctor had to come on and divert the result with attacks Ever since then it's been total defense mode for Dr. A and his clinic of posters. Problem is a lot of you who make these statements have been posting or have found this site about a year ago. Go and look find it in the archives. And this statement about people from Oz to begin this? 2 people made comments before Woods posted.
