TOCO-8 - Study claims 42% hair growth in 5 months |
Col, I ran across this post you made last year in regard to fin losing it's effectiveness. Just curious but has adding supplements such as toco, Curcumin, Resveratrol helped? I’ve been on fin for ~12 years now and have had really good results (totally stopped hair loss and had some regrowth). But I’ve been losing a lot of ground over the past 2 years. I recently added toco-8 and will start Curcumin/Resveratrol next week.
Cheers,
» Yes, any hormonal imbalance can wreak havoc and cause alsorts of
» problems, including hairloss. For example, excess Estradiol also interferes
» with normal Thyroid function which can cause Hypothyroid which,in itself,
» can cause dry/brittle/thinning hair all over the scalp, not just the top.
»
» As my Fin just doesn't work anymore then, logically, DHT is no longer the
» problem in my case hence my attack on both Estradiol & Inflammation. Once
» these are under control i believe the Fin will work as it did before. Most
» people seem to forget that the TWO known main causes for hair-loss are DHT
» AND Inflammation. BOTH must be kept under control.

Resveratrol review by ConsumerLab |
» "[ConsumerLab] tested 13 brands (not including NOW, RevGenetics, among
» others).
»
» Found most complied with stated resveratrol content (and most of this
» ~98%, was trans-resveratrol, apparently), including Jarrow, Biotiva
» Transmax, Swanson.
»
» Life Extension Foundation 20 mg tabs and Young Again tabs failed- [as they
» contained] much less [resveratrol than is stated on the their respective
» bottles]resveratrol."
The Numerous Benefits Of Resveratrol
As far as the diversity of health benefits goes, you will be certainly hard pressed to find another naturally occurring chemical out there which is proven to aid in the following things:
Elimination Of:
- Heart Disease
- Stroke Risk
- Carcinogens of all types
- Effect of Radiation on the body
- Cellular Level dysfunction
- Brain and cell degeneration
- Lactic Acid Buildup
- Free Radicals & Dangerous Toxins
Promotion Of:
- Metabolic Rate (Fat Burning)
- Antioxidant Levels
- Good Cholesterol
- Natural Energy
Indeed, it's not very often that you find a product offering such an incredible range of benefits from the consumption of just 1 particular substance. For more info, please check resveratrol.

Red Wine By Far Exceed The Biological Activity of Plain Resveratrol |
Posted by cpio at another hair loss site:
Researchers Report Combined Molecules In Red Wine By Far Exceed The Biological Activity of Plain Resveratrol, Consistent With The Composition of Longevinex® San Dimas, CA (March 10, 2009) – A recent CBS 60 Minutes TV program drew considerable attention to resveratrol (rez-vair-ah-trawl), a red wine molecule believed to largely be responsible for the French Paradox, the fact the French have far more people living beyond 100 years and exhibit a far lower mortality rate from heart disease than other people living in other developed countries, despite the high-calorie, high-fat diet in France.
Now researchers in Sweden report that the full array of molecules provided in red wine by far exceed the biological effects of plain resveratrol.
The results of the study are consistent with an earlier research study conducted among mice which showed that the combination of resveratrol, quercetin and rice bran phytate-IP6 (Longevinex®) exerted a 9-times greater genomic effect than plain resveratrol or a calorie restricted diet. [Experimental Gerontology 2008 Sep; 43(9):859-66]
Researchers instilled various white and resveratrol-rich red wines as well as research-grade resveratrol into lab dishes with various types of cells (brain, lung, colon, cervical, kidney). Surprisingly researchers found the total array of molecules in red wine, but not white wine, produced a far greater biological effect than resveratrol alone. Furthermore, the beneficial effects were produced independently from alcohol or activation of the Sirtuin1 gene, considered a survival and longevity gene.
Only at higher concentrations did resveratrol cause unhealthy cells to die off (21%), compared to untreated cells (6%). Such a high concentration may produce long-term side effects in humans. But within 24 hours, red wine abolished virtually all (100%) the unhealthy cells. Red wine exerted its effect by disarming protective antioxidant systems.
Researchers caution that this is only a lab dish study and that the results are theoretical. But they seem to mirror the health-giving properties attributed red wine as observed in human populations in France.
The researchers speculate that “instead of a single molecule (like resveratrol) present in wine, … the combination of molecules in red wine … contribute result in a combined effect with positive outcome.”
Bill Sardi, spokesperson for Longevinex® (long-jev-in-ex), says nutriceuticals have distinct advantages over drugs because they often provide an array of molecules, whereas the FDA prefers to approve single-molecule drugs.
“The synergism that nature produces, as seen in wine, may never be reproduced in prescription drugs for this reason,” says Sardi. “The development of a plain resveratrol drug may not be as productive as first imagined,” he says.
The patent-pending Longevinex® formula provides an array of molecules including three found naturally in red wine – resveratrol, quercetin and ferulic acid. The dosage of these molecules in Longevinex® is equivalent to what is provided in 3-5 glasses of red wine (180-300 mg), considered the safe and effective range observed in wine-drinking populations. [British Medical Journal 1991 September 7; 303(6802): 565–568] Longevinex® is designed to deliver the health benefits of red wine without the alcohol, calories or sulfite preservatives.
The study was published in an early online edition (March 4, 2009) of Experimental Cell Research.

Sesame with your Vitamin E |
"Sesame lignans have been shown to have the ability to lower a measure of oxidative cell membrane/DNA damage by 82%.129 The isoprostane marker measures the amount of cell membrane (also called lipid peroxidation) damage caused by free radicals... Sesame lignans [are] added to help block or inhibit the enzyme that breaks down tocotrienols, allowing tissue levels of tocotrienols to build up in the body. This translates into much greater antioxidant protection, decreasing destructive free radicals."

Perry, your approach to hair loss is a mature one. I have always thought it strange when I would read of posters taking a whole bunch of supplements all at once, with absolutely no idea of how they'll interact together in the body. "Gradual" is the key. Posters could save a lot time and heartache by figuring out what works and what does not by a this step by step process of integration.
I drink green tea regularly. So I don't take the capsules everyday, perhaps three times a week. Green tea is a diuretic, so while I am encouraged by its ability to flush, say, toxins, from the kidneys, and I concerned that taking too much could also remove important minerals.
I have almost finished my garlic supply, which I feel has helped with digestion and circulation. Still, I use it only sporadically, and have no plans, at present, to buy more. I, too, want to try sesame seeds next.
When you are able to take curcumin and resveratrol every day, I think you'll notice an even greater change in your hair and scalp's condition.

LOL! at the pic of male breasts. You guys crack me up.
What would really be funny is if the Natural and Hangin were actually really good friends in real life, but didn't know it. For all we know both could ACTUALLY be living in England.
Anyway, the toco-sorb/resveratrol/curcummin/green tea is working pretty good for me. Like any regimen you won't get all your hair back overnight, but I DID notice my hair to be super thick after the first day. I've also been taking the pills at a slower rate than the Natural. I'm more sensitive to supplements so I decided to gradually get into the regimen. I was alternating the toco-sorb one day with the curcummin/resveratrol another day. Soon I'll be taking all three everyday though. I take green tea everyday in the morning. I'll add garlic and sesame seeds everyday as well.
As a bonus, I noticed that my cardio greatly improved. Not much to do with hair loss, I know, but I didn't grow any breasts and I only felt great. I played soccer with some kids here in Thailand and I felt in really good shape. I haven't exercised in a long time so I give credit to the toco-sorb. I think Vit E is known to help cardio.

Help for Orrible (and others): Curcumin |
Wow! Not only does curcumin (and resveratrol) help one suffering from dandruff, and hair loss. It very well may be used to treat gynecomastia, enlargement of the breasts:
"Last year I used 20 grams of grated turmeric root (curcumin) per day for a month to eliminate painful gynecomastia. I went from being at the point of needing a bra and having nipples so sore that I wore only silk shirts, to no soreness in about a week and a near normal chest in just over a month. I then took 2,700 mg of Curcumin powder in capsules daily for several months, reducing gradually to about 900 mg as an antioxidant twice per week now.
I should probably also say that the gynecomastia resulted from 50 mg Casodex and 5 mg of Proscar for eight months in 1999. I had passed on the chest radiation because I did not want any more rads than absolutely necessary."
Barry
Note: Hangin's regimen, containing no less than four DHT blockers, also produced unfavorable side effects similar to that of Proscar: enlarged breasts.

I belong to the large majority that has not posted their pictures.
A few in the Natural section have been kind enough to post theirs. Hogan, if you'll recall, did, to shut you up.
But you are the only one to post fake pictures, then take them down, and hide like a sissy, when challenged by one of the regulars here.
Now, as for people having "reactions to resveratrol," I assume that it's possible. I am not familiar with anyone, though. Does resveratrol cause males to develop breasts like your regimen of DHT blockers? Nah, didn't think so.
You can pretend, create fake nicks to support your regimen, and/or feign ignorance, but it won't do any good. Jacob started this by challenging your truthfulness as a person, then Hogan shut your mouth with his pictures, and now I am going to bury you, once and for all, by exposing your regimen for what it is:

as far as pics I posted mine, proved my point. then i took them down. I dont like my pics being online so after i posted them and proved my point i took them down. Guys who had a problem with the pics or didnt believe they are me............can kiss my ass. its their insecurities showing .
at least i had the guts to post pics. Unlike you and Jacob who run and pee your pants and avoid the topic completely unless shamed into responding , Like I just did to you.
grow up get some balls, stop acting like resveratrol is some miracle. You are so desperate to disparage my regimen you will exaggerate any small tidbit of information to make your weak regimen look good
Like I asked you. If resveratrol is go good why dont you post a list of board members using your regimen? Why not post pics of your amazing success?
Answer, no other board members are using your regimen .........and you have no success to post, thats why you dont want to embarrass yourself by posting pics
I truly feel sorry for you. I do not see any board members going out and trying your regimen. Why is this? if it works so well? ah maybe they are waiting for some pics....................I would not hold my breath if i were them. I sure never excpect you to get the balls to post pics
Now why is it again, explain to us the ...........various reasons........excuses ...........why you wont post pics?

tocotrienols are listed on wikipedia as basically vitamin E source]]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tocotrienol
Tocotrienols – together with tocopherols – compose the vitamin E family.
i notice you also avoided the fact that your regimen includes natural dht blockers...........at the same time you say they are dangerous and cause gyno
explain why you warn guys against saw palmetto, nettles, beta sis etc in my regimen as possible causes of gyno, while you take green tea extract, which falls into the same class? of dht blockers?
are you denying that green tea is a natural dht blocker? or are you saying it is different from the others and could not possibly cause gyno?

I didn't scope out other boards, Hangin'. Orrible included that link in one of his posts here at Hairsite. He developed enlarged breats while using your regimen.

It IS tendonitis. I've seen a doctor and had it verified. And it just gets worse. I quit this garbage months ago and the major sites are just as inflamed as they were when I quit. The latest blow is serious tendonitis above the knee, which I've never experienced in my life. Another fine addition is creeping plantar fasciitis in a hitherto unaffected foot, to go with the raging case that currently hobbles the other foot.
The results of this supposedly vitality-preserving wonder supplement? CRIPPLING TENDONITIS AND A FORCED SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE. I can't even enjoy basic sports with my friends, let alone maintain a rigorous exercise regimen to preserve my health and vitality. And for many people who will try this stuff, it comes at the worst possible stage in life, where recovery may be impossible.
I'm not imagining any of this and I'm not ignoring other possible sources of injury.
IT'S A DISASTER. QUIT THIS STUFF NOW.
Sorry about the way this is screwing up your life Stokestack. Everybody has their personal take on this. The salesman wants to sell it, the scientists want reliable studies and evidence on it, folks with your kind of unfortunate experience would just as soon burn it. Myself, I am staying with it unless I get a real stern warning otherwise from my body. So far, I find the benefits outweighing the costs, even though I had to suffer through an attack of shingles and a lot of stinky intestinal gas.
I don't discount your experiences at all, but I also don't discount the other folks who have been quite happy with their own experiences. My inclination at this point is that if rsv causes some problems, that the baby shouldn't necessarily be thrown out with the bath water. Maybe the administration of rsv can be tweaked to ensure that it works more favorably for everyone. For instance, maybe it simply needs to be taken along with one or more other substances that might compensate for possible chemical deficiencies rsv might cause...
I've read that Quercetin and Niacinamide could help since they inhibit some of rsv effects.
a few side effects commonly listed online
* Tendinitis Pain: this has primarily been reported in the Achilles tendon but has also been said to occur in other locations as well.
* Arthritic Joint Pain:suggested to occur with higher doses of resveratrol.
* Stomach Pain & Diarrhea:this is more often found in low quality or 50% resveratrol formulations. The "emodin" content in these formulations is higher then in more pure 99% resveratrol formulations and is known to cause stomach problems.
* Numbness in the Extremities: this has been stated as occurring briefly after consumption and only lasting a few minutes at a time. It has been noted to go away after a few days of use.
* Caffeine Like High: the feeling of being jittery soon after consumption.
* Decreased Appetite: some find this to be a negative while others see it as a positive.

» and reading how naturals didnt give you side effects etc. I took beta
show me a regimen that doesnt have some people getting bad reactions to it?
hell my friend took resveratrol , his gums bled occasionally, when he took resveratrol he said it was like someone punched him in the mouth
so as far as side effects, I would not be talking about side effects when you are here pushing a dangerous supplement with such severe potential excess BLEEDING as resveratrol

From a post by "perry:"
"Maybe I spelled it wrong. Limbido/libido...whatever. I've seen it spelled both ways.
No I am serious. I'm not the only one who had negative side effects on DHT blockers either. I started taking supplements like pygeum, nettle, beta sisterol, saw palmetto. I tried low doses and I tried lower doses. I omitted beta sis. I still had side effects. I tried them for up to a month, until I could take the fatigue anymore. I tried eating natural souces of DHT blockers like peanuts. Eventually I had the same side effects. DHT blockers just don't work well with my body. I'm sensitive to powerful supplements so I'm not blaming it all on DHT blockers. If they work well for other people, great, but they're not something I care to use internally."
From a post by "orrible:"
"I followed hangins regime after spending time on this forum in early 2005 and reading how naturals didnt give you side effects etc. I took beta sisterol, saw palmetoo & green tea extract in combination. After only 2 weeks i had developed gyne. I stopped the hairloss tabs and took anti estrogens but it didnt resolve. In the end i had surgery. I just thought i would post as i havent visited this forum in awhile and i would have appreciated learning about this before my disaster with naturals.
My link is below. If anybody takes the time to read through it you may see me refered to as stonecold. That was my old username on that forum, but i modified it to orrible to correspond with my hairloss forum username.

There are those at regrowth.com that had an experience similar to Perry's, including lost of short-term memory.
