The guy had a valid albeit short-sighted question regarding cancer.

Some of humanities most mediocre inventions tend to shed light on more profound discoveries. Follicle regeneration could lead way to limb/ organ/ tissue regeneration... which in-turn could spill over to novel cancer treatments.

In the short-term, a cure for hairloss will address many of the psychological pitfalls that come with balding, it will help burn victims, chemo patients, and women (the gender that can't get away with a shaved head).

How do you prioritize research? Personally, I don't think $1 should be spent on AIDS until heart disease and cancer are cured (AIDS being a largely behavior-based disease where as cancer and heart disease generally being genetic). But that's my opinion. In a free market, research will generally be motivated by profitability.

Obviously I am not making light of the need to spend money on cancer research... more this guys glib attitude when making reference to even consider treating hairloss as if it is no big deal. Well to a lot of us hair-loss is a slow psychological death and IMO it should not be taken lightly. This may be a bad analogy but what about burn victims? Once they recover and all their vital signs are back to normal, isn't their only issue now of cosmetic concern? Should we then also make light of skin replacement technologies?

I totally agree - hairloss is treated as a imasculating joke by society. But for those that suffer from it, it is disfiguring.

Cancer has been cured several times.

In 1934 by Dr. Raymond Rife. Read the book "The cancer cure that worked".

In 1952 cancer was cured again. See in google videos: A world without cancer.

Recently by Rick Simpson. See the video: Run from the cure.

There are more cures.

I suspect that hairloss has already been cured also but the solution can't be patented. No patent no cure.

Instead of talking about subjects you haven't read about please see the videos and then comment.

Yeah but don't kill the messenger.

Ahab merely says out loud what millions of men are thinking to themselves, at least to varying degrees.

IMO the only reason science isn't absolutely racing to cure EVERY common cosmetic problem like MPB & acne is because they fail to realize the impact of these things.

The people who get hobbled by them in life don't achieve as much, and the achievers never understand the full extent of the damage of these conditions because they weren't limited by them so much themselves.

I'm not saying everyone who gets X-amount of MPB or acne reacts the same way to it or is limited the same amount. But these kinds of problems really destroy a lot of people's lives, whether it's politically correct to admit that you let it affect you so much or not.

When I was a boy, I learned I would go bald because of genetics. I vowed that would never happen to me.

So when my hair did fall out, there was only one way to stand by my vow: refuse to live life, refuse to be me.

I have chosen the latter for 40 years--I "live" as a recluse.

I hibernate.

Supporting, not to mention enduring, such an existence is an enormous challenge, which I learned to surmount.

Think what I might have achieved had I had been free to chose a lesser priorty vow, like curing cancer, instead!
