I emailed Peter Marinkovich's lab yesterday and asked about the research they published in August: when will it be used on humans and if it's true that they are aiming to use it on humans within two years. The answer was that they are not planning to test it on humans for at least two years. So it seems they didn't mean that it will come out in two years, but that they will start testing it in two years on humans.
