Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP! (Topicals & Shampoos)

I've noticed hairloss on my head for 3 years now.. it's a slow process thank god, since no one's noticed it yet (partially thanks to my hairstyle also), i started using rogaine foam 3 months ago since i wanted to stop losing hair before it was too late and restore it before anyone even noticed.. the first 2 months i only used it once a day and got no results, did some quick research on the internet and saw that you're supposed to use it twice a day so i started using it twice a day for the last month and unfortunatly I've lost way more hair in the last month that I ever did before.. my receiding hairline is actually started to become somewhat obvious.. and i dont know what to do, I read that if you start losing more hair it means that it's actually working and your hair will come back, but then I also read a lot of ppl saying that it doesnt work at all.. soo what should I do, do i Keep using it and risk losing way more hair with no results? or if I'm losing more hair that means it's bound to work?

Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP!

You mean you didn't read anywhere not even on the instructions on the box that you're supposed to use it twice a day???

if you notice your hair to be shedding i woulnd't worry to much about it for you're a good responder to the drug. why not throw in some finasteride for an even more potent treatment. give it atleast 8 months and you'll see really see the difference.

and make sure you're applying it the foam the right way. if not sure, take the minoxidil 5% in liquid form.

Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP!

Usually 4 months of treatment or more are needed before evidence of regrowth is observed.

How to apply topical minoxidil

Topical minoxidil solution is used twice daily (1 mL or 25 drops twice a day) on a dry scalp. The hair is parted five times, and five drops per part are applied directly to the fronto-parietal and vertex scalp, preferably by using a dropper. The lotion can be spread with the fingers; massage is not necessary. The patient can then apply styling products. The lotion should stay on the scalp for at least 4 hours before the next shower. Studies have shown 75% absorption during that period

Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP!

I found that rogaine works well for me & it does take a few months too see results.
With regards to the receding hairline, rogaine is not recommended for the hairline, when my hairline began to recede I opted for a transplant with Dr Armani because of his amazing hairline restoration work.
My receding hairline became a really nice thick dense hairline after the procedure (see pics) and I have used propecia & rogaine since the procedure.

I am having my 2nd procedure in April which will add density to zones 1 & 2 & I will continue to use rogaine & propecia.

I have spoken with people who have stated that when using rogaine it did cause some hair to fall out during early use & this hair then grew back strongly with new hair.
Maybe this is what you are going through?

Any further help I can be please ask.

Cheers

Dan

Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP!

Thanks for the help, the last post was the most helpful.. I don't think Dr. Armani is an option for me right now as I'm just a college student and wouldb't be able to afford any of that..

but damn, is rogaine really not used for hairlines? as in it doesn't really do anything? cuz from what they make it seem like about how its only approved for the crown area and you're supposed to use it as the hair is thinning kind of implies that it's for thinning hairlines

anyways, thanks for the feedback man. I guess I'll just keep using it, till I run out (got a bottle and a half left) then I'm going to switch it up to Provillus, from the amount of research I did I haven't read anything but good about it.

Rogaine works wherever it's applied, although like everything else, it doesn't work as well on the hairline as it does on the crown.

Rogaine Foam Is Causing More Hair Loss? HELP!

Topical minoxidil in either 2% or 5% solution is most effective in persons with recent onset of hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia and relatively small areas of hair loss. Minoxidil is less effective when hair loss is long-standing or large in area.

Minoxidil is often more effective in improving hair growth in central areas of the scalp than in frontal areas.

Dan your hairline looks super nice. What's the current status of your zones 2,3, and 4 and what fue graft #'s are you looking at for these areas? I'm going in in the begining of March with Armani so we'll only be about 1 month apart.

I found that rogaine works well for me & it does take a few months too see

Minoxidil usually isn't enough to stop mpb. You need to at least take finasteride as well.

Dan - Update

Are you using any meds to maintain what you have to the minimum? If not, you should be because even after the second hair transplant you'll likely be using meds anyhow.

I'm looking at roughly 3000 grafts in zones 1 and 2 as well and a little blended into 3. My goal is to reconstruct my hairline and have it dense packed.

Finasteride is an excellent option for male patients experiencing AGA, either alone or as an adjunct to topical minoxidil.
