This might be a stupid question, but.... Does anyone know roughly what a hair count would be in an area the size of a nickel on a normal head of hair? ie. How would the density compare to a person with a full head of hair.

I dont know but I suppose the pic with 433 hair count x 4 would probably be a good estimate of what a normal full head of hair looks like, don't you think?

Yeah, sounds like a reasonable amount.
Just read on another site that Histogen plan on trialing it in asia first with 300 participants. If the trial is successful, they want to release it in Asia afterwards, so no fda trials. Can Hairsite confirm if this information is correct?

This was summarized by someone else from another forum:
If the asian trial is succesful, they can go directly to market in asia, excluding Japan....no more waiting. Then they will look to the US.
They showed 2 photos at the 5 month mark with the average increase in hair being over 20% with a single injection.....some over 40%. The photos, like those seen on their website, are of an area the size a nickel. A 20% increase in this nickel sized area was equivalent to 100 additional hairs.
They say there were absolutely no safety issues and they feel like they can increase the effectivenes with multiple injections or by increasing the dosage.
The caveat
this was an investment raising presentation (it's expected they would) paint a very promising picture.
They are waiting for a ruling on their lawsuit motion for Summary Judgement. HSC is not a subject of the lawsuit.

The new hair will almost certainly be susceptible to DHT. Histogen have admitted this, saying that "if it took 30 years for your old hair to fall out, it should take 30 years for the new hair to fall out". I am just speculating, but a way round this problem might be a top up every year to keep the new hair in a growth phase? We dont know, but this problem could be massive in terms of cost effectiveness ie. it costs a lot for hair thats gone in a few years.
I was wondering how HSC would act on the rest of the scalp aswell. We wont know until they start doing trials on the temples and front of the scalp. Maybe one of the guys on the site who are more knowledgeable than me could have a guess? I mean, will it give a hairline, or will an injection at the front lead to hair growing on your forehead.

WHEN |
This is strictly from my recollection, please be advised that it may not be 100% accurate:
IF all goes as expected, there will be a pivotal trial in Singapore or somewhere in Asia approximately 6 months from now. The trial will focus on "Safety, Dosing & Delivery". It will be open to both men and women. Roughly 200-300 test subjects will be recruited.
A timeline was provided during the presentation yesterday. According to the chart, if everything goes well, official launch outside US "MIGHT" be possible in about 36 months from now.
This is for general discussion and speculation purposes only, not intended to be a promise that it will happen.

my offhand thoughts on this:
-- Are the results compoundable? (if not then it's like minox. There's only a set 1-time gain despite repeatedly injecting the same area every few months.)
-- If we can't get it in the USA for a few years after asia, then surely we can find a way to get it imported under the table.
-- even w/o any improved DHT resistance compared to the originals, I hope the boosted hairs are able to survive PERIOD without constant re-injection. (If I could manage to get as much hair as I wanted, then surely I can walk away from all the medications for at least a few years, right?)

you can easily estimate.
there is a scale. it looks to me like a circle of 0.8 cm in diameter (see the 2mm scale there?), so if its 0.8cm, then illusion of full head of hair density starts at 50*3 hairs / cm ^2. the area of the circle is pi*(0.8^2). The number of TERMINAL hair that would give you illusion of full head of hair would then have to be pi*(0.8^2)*50*3 and that is 301... with density of 70 grafts / cm^2 the number of terminal hair on the area of the size shown on the photographs would be pi*(0.8^2)*70*3 and that is 422 terminal hair.
You can see, that the person on the photograph started with quite a lot of hair already. He was far from slick bald. Yes some of it was not terminal, but still. My main concern would be, is this going to work for baldies? Or is it just another minoxidil that works if you still have your hair growing?

You wont get results like this from one application of minoxidil or one propecia pill.
Why don't people take into account that these results were from a single injection?

Minox has no permanence, I agree.
But Finasteride does. Use it (successfully) for 5 years, and you will probably push back your lifetime loss by most of 5 years permanently. Even if you drop the drug and the loss resumes, you will still retain the benefit from those 5 years for the rest of your life.

They have different evolutions in time. The S1013 seems to have a sustained improvement in time, while the S1024 clearly loses steam at 5 months (terminal hairs number basically return to baseline at 5 months).
We will see. Patient S1013 makes me a bit optimistic. Maybe a finetuning will be able to improve the time-response in all patients...

i face the the most talked about side effects of propecia...it's utter BS that it only effects small percentage of users...
i'm seriously considering getting off propecia, but I'd go from NW 3 to NW5 probably within 8 months... i'll then just probably get a buzz cut ...i just can't bring myself to do - at least not yet!

Patient S1013 keeps improving at 5 months |
i wonder if there is an explanation for that, patient s1024 hair count increases but both terminal hair and thickness decrease at 5 months. What's Histogen explanation and how many test patients are having this problem?

We can hardly conclude anything from two examples |

Until the provide data with a sizable cohort, its hard to conclude anything from these two examples. I hope they can fund a full-fledged series of trials.

very weird. It seems that s1024 at 5 months started to lose thickness, and thus, some terminal hairs returned to vellus status. And additionally, new vellus hair was being created at 5 months... very weird.

true. s1013 has had a surprisingly good time response. He keeps improving even at 5 months. Too good to be true. Maybe this trialist secretly used minoxidil, hahaha.
