The north won the war b/c of resourses. Man for man the south kicked its ass. Things are different now. The blue states basically just cover the "left" coast,New England and of course Michigan. Not only that the north had at least "men" back then instead of these liberal pussies. I'll take todays red vs blue any day of the week. LMFAO even harder!

Look,
I'm not interested in being "united" with you and you aren't with me.
Let's just divide the country peacefully and wish each other luck.
I've been all through the South.
There are good, bad and ugly souls there just as there are here in the North.
You "red states" folks can keep your hate, racism, name calling and your dishonorable "heritage".
We'll happily take the good hearted Southerners up here.
We'll be just fine without "ya'll" good ole boys.
You can have Alaska too.
God bless and keep you... far away from me.

P.S. R i g h t. The South "kicked ass" in the Civil War. Lol. Whatever gets you through the night tough guy.

Do some research my friend. Most of the major campaigns were won by the South. First and Second Bullrun, Mechanicsville, Jacksons Valley campaign, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville were all major campaigns that completely embarrassed the North. BTW, in the whole, the union losses were in excess of 365,000 while the South maybe lost 260,000. I would call that kicking ass, being they were significantly outnumbered.
Lol. Whatever

You're right.
I don't "tolerate" racism or hate.
Sure, the South may have won some battles but we won the war (and many more hearts and minds).
Defending the Confederacy and what is stood for?
I wonder what else you can defend?
But you do have excellent taste in HT docs.
Happy growing to ya', my fellow American.

If you're going to play the line that the Confederacy stood for slaves, that's just a bunch of bull. Slavery was on its way out anyway. You would be surprised how many of the heartfelt northerners supported and even owned slaves. Most southerners didn't own slaves, so why the fu)k would they even engage? The more you study this war, the more you will realize how off base you are.

Dear Red States... |
"In this election, I saw a lot more racism and hate from your team."
That's just silly, IMO.
Heck, listen to some of the racist filth coming from Republican party "leaders" today regarding this election.
Shall I post some links for ya'?
"Uppity, pallin' around with terrorists, doesn't see America like WE do", etc.
Flyers with Barack eating watermelon, fried chicken, etc.
Based on what I've seen at the Palin rallies, I'm for a peaceful division of the US.
What are we united about exactly?
Many of these people are ignorant, hateful, violent freaks.
"Kill him, Traitor!", etc.
Good lord.
I want no part of what I've seen at those rallies or, IMO, their "thinly veiled KKK meetings".
Palin should just don the white sheets and pillowcase and call it a day.
McCain has disgraced himself and his legacy, IMO.
If he has a soul, he'll go to the grave regretting what he has done.
Country first? What a joke.
He picked Palin for the good of the country? Not.
"So you're void of all racism and hate? Be honest with your self."
I'm only human, as we all are.
However, my family is multi-cultural (black, white, asian and hispanic).
My son is "biracial". I suppose I'm "white", although being half Jewish, Hitler might disagree. Lol.
My wife is from Central America and she's beautifully "brown".
We also have many religions represented in our family (Christian, Catholic, Jewish and Muslim).
So no, I have no irrational racial (or religious) hate issues, IMO.
Do I struggle with hate at times?
Well, of course I struggle with that emotion, like everyone.
But my hate is not based in racism.
"So I guess this was a war you supported by the pride you exude"
Yes, I am very relieved, happy and proud that the North won.
Is that what you mean?
"If you're going to play the line that the Confederacy stood for slaves, that's just a bunch of bull."
We will just have to disagree on this one.
IMO, the Confederacy stood FOR "slavery", not their slaves.
Not slavery alone, but yes, many wanted to preserve their "way of life" and "culture".
We all know what that means, "bless their hearts".
The Northerners wanted slavery? Lol. Talk about revisionism. Oy vey.
The culture of racism is still evident in many pockets of the South (and in some places here too, but it's not quite the same, IMO).
The South embraced segregation (institutionalized racism) less than 50 years ago.
If some folks down there had their way, it would still be going on; David Duke, Strom Thurmond, Trent Lott, Jesse Helms, and yes, Robert Byrd (a Democrat), etc.
IMO, Byrd will be asked to retire very soon (and that's a goo thing, IMO).
Hopefully we can disagree without being disagreeable.
But you can still have the deep South. ; )
I'm off to a Halloween party in an hour so, have a happy one.
Cheers to you MPB and happy growing.

"The blacks"?
That's a term my 90 year old Grandpa might use. Lol.
Jesse Jackson and Rev Al? Lol.
What office were they elected to again?
Oh yeah, none.
But I'll take Jesse Jackson over Jesse Helms every day of the week.
The few racist "white" elected leaders in the US actually did have power to oppress people and did so with prideful hate and ignorance (segregation, etc.). The remaining ones still try but now the focus is gays, Muslims and immigrants.
And the homophobia on these boards is just plain juvenile and sad, IMO.
Doesn't it seems kind of GAY (or metrosexual at best) for us to be so obsessed with having pretty hair! Including me. Lol.

you seem to have an obsession with gays, who was talking about gays? are you in the closet?
we were talking about Jesse and Rev Al. the self appointed spokesmen for black america ops. you say calling them blacks is not ok? what would you prefer? negro? african american?
who appointed you as a spokeperson for the blacks, by the way. Racism does it exist in America , sure , it exists in every country. Hell the blacks discriminate towards their own people. Darker skinned blacks are considered low class and lighter skinned blacks llike Beyonce, Mariah, Vanessa Williams, etc etc are worshipped as symbols of beauty. So if the blacks discriminate AGAINST THEIR OWN PEOPLE who are dark skinned or who have more black features. then who are they to cry racism? Pot calling the kettle, Ops guess thats a bad pun.
Discrimination against dark skin occurs in ALL COUNTRYS AND IN ALL RACES......there is a nauural bias towards lighter skin that goes back thousands of years. Is it right? is it fair? It is the way it is, learn to deal with it.
Blacks who have the attitude of lets say Colin powell, just try to achieve the best they can in life and acdept that racism exists. They dont cry about whitey causing all their problems. If blacks had your attitude they would all sit home drop out of school, go on welfare and blame whitey for all their problems. Why try ? after all whitey will just hold you down? sounds like a good excuse for failure.

» example.
i live in a country where i am the minority, every person here, for the most part has dark skin, light skin is rare
yes sounds like i am a big fat racist to me
i have a problem yes with american blacks..........because of their skin color? no. Their attitude, yes. I have no problem with Blacks from Africa for the most part, they are go getters , want to start their own businesses, and do not think that the govt is there to save them and that whitey is the cause of all their problems. I had a very good friend in college from Africa, who was the coolest person you ever met in your life. You would think he had many black friends from the USA also. NOPE he did not want anything to do with american blacks. Was he a racist? HA HA HA. Well I asked him why this was, since it surprised me. I asked, why he had no american black friends, for the most part.......He said.........They are lazy and have crap attitudes. Gee what a surprise African blacks want nothing to do with american blacks who you would think would share a bond.
get over your fear of other races
just because you are a failure in your effort to raise money and get docs to try your whacko hair loss forumula, do not take out your frustration on other board members
have you raised 100 bucks yet?
I will contribute 25c

How can you lump all African-Americans together into one group of people that you "have a problem with"?
No race or group of people are one-minded.
Even Republicans or Democrats. Lol.
Do you do this with other groups?
If so, please elaborate.
On second thought, never mind.
Sigh.
Since we are making unfair generalizations, I find that men with MPB tend to be hostile people blaming their hairloss for all their short comings and whine about endlessly it on forums while posting racist rants... but there are many exceptions. No, I can't stand by that nonsense, it's about 50-50.
Happy Monday folks.

Of course, but who the fu)k would want to live in Canada anyway. My dad lived in Toronto for about 10 yrs. It seemed like they took about 60% of everything he worked his ass off just to support that stinkin welfare state. If people want Canada, why dont they just go there. They'll get a crash course in socialism. Growing up in Michigan, I only learned this lesson too well.

You consider healthcare a right! So are you going to force people to become doctors also? You realize your theory has many flaws but hey why stop at healthcare? I think owning a mansion and a Mercedes should be a right also. Why should only a certain class of people have them? Thats just not fair!

I'm a Born Again American! Lol!
The neo-cons and supply-siders had their way for many years.
Time to try something new.
Our last president promised he would be a "uniter" not a "divider".
Let's hope this president follows through on that sentiment.
Let the healing begin!

Regarding healthcare...
IMO, all children will have access to healthcare in Obama's first term.
The rest of us may have to wait until his second term.
Our "nanny state" currently provides police protection, fire protection, roads, bridges, public education, etc.
WHY NOT HEALTHCARE?
Can we have a civilized discussion?
If one likes his/her healthcare plan, great, keep it.
I would like access to the plan my representatives have access to (Obama, Clinton, Cheney, McCain, etc.).
It is OUR money (taxes).
I'd like something back besides endless war.
America is BACK BABY!
And most of the world is very happy for us.
We have a President who will attract seas of fans when he travels, not protests.

Obama's economic plans are very similar to Bill Clinton's in the 90s.
Remember when neo-cons were running around calling Bill a Communist too in 1992? Lol.
We'll all be just fine.
Trickle-down (or supply side) economics has been disgraced.
"Welfare" for the mega-rich (and big corporations) doesn't help the middle and lower economic classes prosper, quite the opposite in fact.
Now, check it out!
Obama CLEARLY had an HT or is wearing hair!

Ever hear the old bedtime story about John-Q and George and Barack?
George borrows $100 from John-Q and blows it all on a party across town. But George doesn't ask for the money today, he just puts on John-Q's credit card for next month. John-Q doesn't feel the loss of any money yet, and he doesn't see the evidence if it being spent, so he feels like it hasn't happened. But George is really calling him a great pal to everyone.
Then Barack borrows $10 from John-Q and he takes the money that same day. Barack buys John-Q a gift with it. But John-Q doesn't like the gift. He thinks it's okay but it wasn't worth the whole $10.
So now John-Q thinks George is a good pal, but he thinks Barack is a money-grubbing fool who shouldn't be trusted to borrow anything.
Can anybody explain where John-Q went wrong?

Boy- now we're all coming up with our little stories to explain our ideologies. Then how about this spin of the ant and the grasshopper.
With what looks like imminent passage of the Mother of All Bailouts (following on the heels of a year’s worth of government-funded rescues of private homeowners, lenders, insurers, and the automakers), Washington has turned Aesop’s famous fable about prudence and hard work on its head. The time is ripe for a revised 2008 edition of “The Ant and the Grasshopper:”
In a meadow on a hot summer’s day, a Grasshopper was chirping and carousing his time away. He watched scornfully as an Ant nearby struggled to store up large kernels of food and build a secure nest. The Ant pulled overtime shifts to pay off his loans and accumulate retirement funds for the future.
“Give it a rest,” the Grasshopper said. “Why bother saving and slaving and toiling and moiling? Let’s party!” The Ant demurred: “I am planning ahead for winter and you should do the same.” The Grasshopper blew off the Ant, squandered his supplies the rest of the season, and abandoned his home while on vacation (paid for by tapping every last cent of his home equity gain) instead of holding down a job.
When winter came, the Grasshopper’s pantry was empty and his shelter ruined from neglect. The Ant, weary from planting, harvesting, and stocking up for months, was dining comfortably in his nest.
Cold, hungry, jobless, facing foreclosure, and up to his two pairs of eyeballs in debt, the Grasshopper limped to the Association of Community Winged Insects for Rescue Now and demanded recourse. The office was swamped with thousands just like him. ACWIRN immediately put the Grasshopper to work registering dead ants as new voters.
Funded with tax dollars from the rest of the meadow’s residents, ACWIRN organized mass protests at the Bank of Antamerica, ambushed its top officials at their private homes, harassed their children, and demanded that the meadow’s politicians halt all foreclosures (”We must keep Grasshoppers in their houses!”) and outlaw discriminatory lending practices against starving, homeless Grasshoppers (”Well-stocked shelters are basic insect rights!”)
The banking industry capitulated; the Orthoptera Lobby secured hundreds of millions of dollars in housing earmarks and grants and counseling subsidies to support the Grasshoppers with the shadiest credit and employment histories. Antie Mae, the meadow’s government-backed home lending giant, fueled the push for increased insect homeownership in the name of biodiversity. Its executives cooked the books and headed for the hills. Katie Cricket and the Mainstream Meadow Media joined the grievance-for-profit circus, profiling Grasshopper sob stories and drumming up ratings as bewildered Ants wondered who was looking out for them.
The banks drowned in toxic debt. More Grasshoppers fell behind on their mortgage payments. Bailout mania and panic gripped the meadow.
Our little Ant, minding his own business, heard a knock on his door one late winter night a year later. It was his old, sneering Grasshopper neighbor. With ACWIRN’s presidential candidate, Barack Cicada, now in office, the Grasshopper had been hired by the meadow as a tax collector.
“I’m here to take your provisions,” the Grasshopper cackled.
But it was the Ant who had the last laugh. “I’ve learned my lesson,” he told his shiftless friend. “Why bother saving and slaving and toiling and moiling? I’ve spent all my savings. I’m walking away from my mortgage. Thrift is for suckers,” the Ant said as he headed out the door, leaving the Grasshopper empty-handed.

Please don't tell me you actually think we have a mortgage crisis because of left-wing social policies and not because of an underregulated financial industry.
Turn off the talk radio and start looking at the math involved in this issue.
Left-wing social politics have been pushing the financial industry towards getting borderline people into home loans for decades. And yet for some reason there were no mortgage industry meltdowns over it for decades either. I wonder why?
This meltdown happened when the financial industry became deregulated to the point of allowing the mortgage-writers to isolate themselves from the actual risk exposure. Not before that.
Get it? A DEREGULATION was followed by a MELTDOWN.
Now, which party has a deregulation problem when it comes to the financial industry?
Not the democrats.

Here's the problem. Sure conservatives want deregulation- of NON-GOVERNMENTAL ENTERPRISES. And yes you're right in a sense. I did not support the bailout of these financial institutions one bit... and now GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Forget it. They have management problems that no bail out will help. Bailing out non-governmental institutions is not a conservative ideology BTW. The spending sluts in Congress (Both Democrats and Republicans are responsible for this mess.
Anyway, Fannie and Freddie are NOT private enterprises- they are government backed and therefore SHOULD be regulated. I guess it was Clinton who regulated them in the sense that he forced them to start dealing these shady sub-prime mortgages back in 1999, not for decades as you say. He was heavily supported by Barnie Frank and Cris Dodd. Look it up dude.. its all on record. When exactly did Republicans want DEREGULATION of Fannie and Freddie BTW?
See if you can handle watching this link from the "very biased" Fox News.

I don't want to be drag into this dicussion between red blue states, but just a few corrections from the whole thread:
1. Obama's political program is not socialism (unless you consider 95% of the rest of the "richest countries" as being socialist). I have seen (and worked in) a few socialist/communist countries to know what I am speaking about:
Cuba, which by the way has one of the best health system I have ever seen (as confirmed by the number of US citizens and others going illegally over there to get a surgical operation they couldn't afford in their country), Eastern Europe at the time, arguably France, etc - long list.
2. Crime is directly linked to poverty. Hence if say the greens are poorer that say the blues, which group is more likely to commit more crimes? (by reading a few comments, not a lot of people have obviously worked in underprivilaged areas).
From what I have seen so far (well over 50 countries), the best politico-socio-etc system in place is the "Northern European" (i.e. Scandinavian). Not perfect, but great compromise (e.g. Denmark):
- top health system and social services
- still allowing to set up your own business (not too taxed such as in France)
If you know any better system in place, please let me know.

» I don't want to be drag into this dicussion between red blue states, but
» just a few corrections from the whole thread:
»
» 1. Obama's political program is not socialism (unless you consider 95% of
» the rest of the "richest countries" as being socialist). I have seen (and
» worked in) a few socialist/communist countries to know what I am speaking
» about:
» Cuba, which by the way has one of the best health system I have ever seen
» (as confirmed by the number of US citizens and others going illegally over
» there to get a surgical operation they couldn't afford in their country),
» Eastern Europe at the time, arguably France, etc - long list.
»
» 2. Crime is directly linked to poverty. Hence if say the greens are poorer
» that say the blues, which group is more likely to commit more crimes? (by
» reading a few comments, not a lot of people have obviously worked in
» underprivilaged areas).
»
» From what I have seen so far (well over 50 countries), the best
» politico-socio-etc system in place is the "Northern European" (i.e.
» Scandinavian). Not perfect, but great compromise (e.g. Denmark):
» - top health system and social services
» - still allowing to set up your own business (not too taxed such as in
» France)
» If you know any better system in place, please let me know.

The situation with deregulation was started during the Clinton years for sure. But it wasn't until the post-2001 recession that it really got out of control and needed the big corrective attention. Blaming Clinton for this stuff is like blaming Reagan for causing our military to get softer during the 1990s because he helped end the cold war in the 1980s.
The lending/housing and stuff didn't get that corrective attention it needed in the last few years because of who was supposed to be doing it during that time. A govt that was primarily Republican controlled didn't want to do something unpleasant like that at the time. For some reason both parties began viewing the crazy real estate speculation bubble and reckless loaning practices as ways of solving financial problems instead of creating them.

Since you failed to look at it the first time I'll post it again... and this time listen to why the legislation for more regulation got blocked. B/C The DEMOCRATS, all of them, voted against it coming out of committee so it was senseless to bring it to the Senate floor since the Republicans did not have a mandate. This bill was sponsored by McCain BTW. Obama voted his usual "present".

What does REPUBLICAN controlled mean Cal? In 2006 they didn't have the votes to pass the fu8king thing. IOW, they didnt have 3/5 (thats more than a simple majority BTW) of the Senate on board. Sheesh.

MPB,
I didn't say the Senate was Republican-controlled at the time. I said that the committee brewing up that particular bill was Republican-controlled.
This glorious bill you're talking about was abandoned without ever even gaining the majority of THEIR support for it. The Republicans had enough of a majority that they could have pushed it for a full senate vote. They did not because they did not even support it enough themselves.
And you're blaming Barack Obama & the Democrats for the failure of this bill?
This is what happens when you let preconceived political opinions dictate where you get your information.

That's just simply bullsh)t. Its all in the record Cal. What, because FOX provided the feed it was all made up? You're insane. Barak Obama didn't even think the legislation was important enough to weigh in! Yeah blame the Republicans. Everything is their fault. Well you guys have TOTAL control now. Who are you going to blame this time?

Who will I blame? I'll blame the Democrats when they phuck up this time. And they probably will for the most part.
I started voting back in 2000 and I have yet to vote for a Democratic presidential candidate. That includes not voting for Barack Obama this month.
I'm sorry if that causes problems for your "Cal's a bleeding-heart liberal" assumption. You'll have to reconcile my distaste for Republicans without the excuse that I'm just blindly in love with the other side.
Your link isn't wrong because it was from FOX news. It's wrong because FOX told the story so purposely misleading that it functioned as a lie.
The bill failed to muster adequate votes to get out of the committee that was writing it. That committee was chaired by a Republican majority, and the bill failed to even amass all of THEIR votes. It was never put to a full vote, so, like tons of other bills, many Democrats never got interested in it at all. That bunch of uninterested Democrats included Obama.
So basically it was a stillborn bill. It died on the operating table. The Republicans didn't support their own bill enough to demand a vote on it. If you (and Fox news) insist on twisting this chain of events around until the story reads that the Democrats murdered this bill, then I can't help you.

This is you're quote Cal:
"Wanna know why the conservatives are so quick to look at Obama and recognize a candidate being elected just on charisma and hype?
Because the conservatives just got finished electing the worst example of that mistake in American history. And they didn't even learn their lesson until they've given the idiot two straight terms."
So are you saying you have a thing for voting for idiots or were you one of the ones that wrote in Mickey Mouse so you could tout all your governmental cynicysm?

Why wasn't it put to a full vote? B/c it takes more than a simple majority to pass the thing and they knew with a 100% DEMOCRAT vote against it... why waste time even bringing it to the floor. That was what was presented in the FOX feed. Where was the misleading part?

Again it doesn't matter if EVERY Republican was on board with it- every Democrat wasn't so no matter how you add it up, it wouldn't have passed. Was that you're point? That since EVERY SINGLE Republican didn't support the bill it was therefore THEIR bill and there lies the fault?

I'm a libertarian, for what it's worth. If that's throwing my vote away then so be it. I can sleep better this way.
Personally I think voting for either one of these main parties is throwing away your vote. That not only isn't helping, it's supporting the problems.
The bill you're carping over was the product of a mainly Republican committee. The Republicans in the committee didn't even vote for it enough themselves to make it a serious contender for being passed. I'm sorry if you can't understand this in any other way than to blame the Democrats. But I'm not gonna keep arguing with you about it.
Have you ever looked at some of the more specific criticisms of the attempted regulations? You might discover that the motivations for Dems not supporting that bill were more reasonable that someplace like FOX news would have you think.
The Republicans have a real habit of proposing obviously unreasonable bills, and then self-rightously accusing the Dems of just not wanting the regulations at all when they're forced to vote it down.
