The hair characteristics of this patient is that he has less than average follicular groupings.

Low groupings means that the number of hair per fu is low. The Normal is 2.2 hair/fu. If this patient had the normal, then it would be 6600 hairs (3000 X 2.2). Since he has low follicular groupings it means that the average hair/fu is lower than 2.2, say about 1.8 hair/fu which means that the final hair count for 3000fu is 5400 hairs (3000 X 1.8 )

The final result depends ultimately on the final count of hair rather than of the final count of fu's.
