» In a previous post you stated that you used peppermint to reduce your beard

peppermint oil in purified water at about a one-forty/fifty ratio. It has a little tingle, but not a painful sting a few seconds after application if you do it right. The reduction in beard growth was very noticeable (profound really) in the third month after starting. The oil and water never really "mix", so you have to shake it up a bit before application. Peppermint wont mix in alcohol, but will ball up in 'beads' at the base of the container. An emulsifier like lecithin might be helpful...........but the mix is alright in itself. I wouldn't make it too strong as too much peppermint might be harmful. Alot of hair products now contain peppermint oil or menthol like Alpecin, Tricomin shampoo, tricoimin, American Crew Citrus Mint shampoo, American Crew "Thickening" Shampoo (as mentha pipereta), Paul Mitchell LemonSage Thickening shampoo, Alpecin liquid, Revita shampoo, Fuller Thicker Hair Shampoo, Jason's Tea Tree Thin-to-Thick Shampoo and a a few others.................so Im pretty sure the secret is out about the anti-androgenic potential of peppermint.
Im currently testing green tea and cedarwood on my beard. Those are my two next "best guesses". Rose hips, arnica, and licorice (although licorice seems to suppress melanocytes.....meaning early grey hair being a possibility) would seem to be other candidates. Red clover extract also might be a suppressor of beard growth as well as topical genistein and daidzien. Topical curcumin would be a terrific anti-androgen if it didnt' stain the skin and smell like it does. A company is trying to develop a topical extracted from curcumin to do this without the smell/stain factor.
