I think the reason why it doesn't work is fairly obvious: there are so many feedback loops in the body, especially when it comes to the production and regulation of androgens, you can't just simply partially interefere with a far "upstream" factor like cholesterol synthesis and expect the effect to "trickle-down" into lower levels of androgens. Ahhhh, if only it were so simple! :-)
