The banks were FORCED? They did this because of simple greed, because there was much money in those mortgages, until the housing markets prices went down and the whole thing collapsed. But nobody forced them for sure. It's a fact that this crisis has its roots in deregulation rather than too much regulation.

In most parts of Western Europe, Health Care IS a right, and we're quite proud of it. If you got a medical condition here, you just go to the doctor and get world class treatment, then you go home and thats it. For that you have to pay taxes, yes, but on the other hand you don't end up being refused by insurance companies for a premedical condition and dont need to face the greedy corporations. Health care shouldn't be part of the for-profit sector (unless its a "luxury-treament" like a hair transplant), it should be part of the social system, which in the US is quite underdevoloped for such a developed nation.
