How are they relevant to Obama's campaign? I would ask why George Bush hasn't been on the stump with John McCain, that seems more odd to me. For the first time in history, the sitting President and VP did not attend their parties convention nor campaigned for their successor.

Prisons contain a majority of poor U.S. citizens, the fact is that more crimes happen in poor areas than wealthy areas; race has nothing to do with it. The truth is that until 50 years ago, minorities weren't even allowed to drink from the same water fountain, ride on the same bus, or eat in the same restaurant as whites, not to mention the education and career disparities. With that kind of oppression, it's not hard for most people who've studied history to understand why a portion of minorities are still living in poverty and struggling to get ahead.

Why none of us today are responsible for what happened in the past, it doesn't mean we can overlook the challenges that minorities have had to face and are still trying to overcome. Education is considered the great equalizer, but if you look at the quality of schools in the poorer areas, it is obvious that education is still not equal in this country. Until it is, you will continue to see this trend with minorities.
