I had an additional chat with Mercola's staff to find out whether he is in a trial of a company or not. They said that he is not part of any company trials, he is testing this on his own.
However, the staff member I chatted with gave me link to some other article that Mercola wrote about, and that was about Follica's success. She said that article might be useful to see what Mercola is doing. So either he is trying out some scam product or he got some "starting kit" from Follica, without officially being part of their trials. I believe the latter is very unlikely though
