The kind of weird thing is that they are testing it for INFLAMMATION, facial flushing in allergies, etc. -- Merck says it found no results in preventing baldness.

My only logical interpretation of THAT is that because Cotsarelis says he "just" discovered this link between PGD2 and hairloss, Merck WAS NOT LOOKING FOR ANY LINK TO BALDNESS.

Ergo, they didn't see link any BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T LOOKING FOR ONE.

It's really easy for a corporation PR department to give a pat answer, e.g., "we didn't find any link" when they weren't looking for one. They conveniently leave out the part that they weren't looking for one, because if they mention that, number one it would make them look bad, and number two it would tacitly acknowledge that Cotsarelis found the connection and they didn't. It's a non-denial denial, of sorts.

Otherwise they would have to say, "Aha!! Cotsarelis is right! There must be a link!!!"

And then immediately Cotsarelis would have his hand out for millions of dollars.

Since they can't make a quick decision to pay him millions of dollars, the answer: "We found no link" is the best you're gonna get from them for now.
