BIOTINBiotin is a component of the vitamin B2 complex. Biotin is required by most organisms. It participates in biological carboxylations. Biotin is heat sensitive and is essential for the metabolism of fat and carbonhydrates. Deficiencies in biotin in children may result in retarded physical and mental development, impaired immunity, anemia and in some cases alopecia. Biotin is particularly rich in liver, milk, egg yolks, yeast and kidney. It is also present in many other foods. The effect of Biotin can be nullified by avidin - Biotin's antagonist. Avidin is a glycoprotein obtained from raw egg whites. It has high affinity for Biotin and can render the biotin in the diet unavailable.
