HAIRSITE'S
REVIEW |
- Dr. Proctor is one of the very few physicians who formulate his own
treatment program for hair loss. In addition to being a physician, Dr. Proctor is also a
PhD Pharmacologist active in skin drug research for over 25 years. Dr. Proctor has been
screening hair loss treatment agents since 1984 and have been awareded by the US patent
office seven US patents for the treatment of alopecia, hair loss and balding. Dr.
Proctor's successes in treating hair loss have also been featured in various publications
including Newsweek, Esquire, and Mens Health magazines.
- For those who are frustrated about the lack of prescription strength
treatment for hair loss, Proxiphen (prescription formula) is good news for you. It
combines some of the most potent topical agents for hair loss, all in one cream. Some of
the active ingredients are minoxidil, tretinoin (Retin-A), Spironolactone and Phenytoin.
Proxiphen is one of the very few products in the market that combines hair growth
stimulants (eg: Minoxidil) with anti-androgens (eg: Spironolactone). The significance of
this combination is that while Minoxidl can stimulate new hair growth and prolong
the growing phase of hair, anti-androgens such as spironolactone can combat DHT and
prevent further hair loss. The two work synergistically together and perfectly complement
one another in treating hair loss.
- Another aspect that is noteworthy about Proxiphen is that it is formulated
WITHOUT ALCOHOL. Some have suggested that Alcohol can have a drying effect to your scalp
and perhaps even damaging to hair follicles as well as scalp tissues. Just like alcohol
can dissolve any organic and inorganic substances, it may also dissolve the integrity of
scalp tissues and hair follicles if used repeatedly over time. A perfect example would be
the so called "minoxidil burn" associated with long term use of minoxidil
topical lotion. "Minoxidil burn" are usually characterized by sypmtoms such as
itchiness of the scalp, redness, excessive flaking, scabs and other scalp irritations.
Many attributed these symptoms to the fact that topical minoxidil is formulated with at
least 50% alcohol (ethanol) and long term use of topical minoxidil is bound to generate
these undesirable side effects. For more discussion about why you should choose a topical
hair loss treatment that is formulated WITHOUT ALCOHOL, please go to HairSite's LIBRARY
and look for abstract # 61.
- Please note that you need a prescription for Proxiphen. For those who live
in Houston, you can simply visit Dr. Proctor at his clinic. But for those who cannot visit
Dr. Proctor's in Houston, you will probably have trouble finding a physician who will
write you a prescription for Proxiphen. The reason is that Proxiphen is not yet FDA
approved and most doctors are unwilling to prescripe a non-FDA approved drug to patients.
An alternative is to simply get a note from your doctor indicating that you are suffering
from hair loss. Dr. Proctor can mail you Proxiphen upon receipt of the doctor's note. A
copy of your old Rogaine or Propecia prescription from your doctor will also be
acceptable.
- Proxiphen-N, Nano Shampoo and Nano Conditioner can be ordered without a
prescription.
- Dr. Proctor is very knowledgeable about hair loss treatments and he
personally answers his e-mail.
