Vineet - NW 6/7 - hair restoration (Hair Transplant)

Dear forum readers,

We shall be discussing certain hair restoration cases in the days, to come.

These patients have agreed to share the progress of their restoration. We hope to be able to post regular follow ups.

The correct use of BHT,
beard hair to scalp transplants,
strip FUHT combined with FUSE/fue,
suitability of megasessions, and
hair restoration plans for those extensively bald shall be some keypoints of these discussions.

I request all readers and fellow HT doctors to participate with their input and questions.

Regards,
Dr. A

The importance of voicing your opinion

Dear Readers,
I feel that a part of the prospective patient's research should include participating in such discussions.

That way, they post comments based on their previous research and read the responses to know whether they are correct in their statements.

---------------------------------------

So, I request you to post what you would think as the
1. hair transplant strategy, and,
2. The hair transplant design (hairline, temples, crown etc.).

He has a large bald area. I say just do what Dr. Umar does for some of his patients, the "dusting" effect. The least risky IMO.

Easy. Do a strip, use the grafts to build his front then use body hair as filler for the rest. That's the only way to max out the donor.

Dr A, hope things are going well!!

I hate to say this, but I honestly don't believe this gentleman should get a transplant. He might be at the border of a NW6/7 now, but it sure looks like to me that he is definitely headed for NW7. He has thick strong donor hair, but it looks like his sides are already beginning to thin a lot.

Any temples that are built now could become an island as it looks like his temples are not done pushing back towards his ears.

As a true NW6 myself, I can tell you how incredibly difficult it is to get significant coverage on an area that big.

He needs to be advised of what a long-term commitment both financially and timewise it is that he is undertaking or he runs the risk of looking freakish if he stops prior to completing the surgeries. There was a patient of Dr Umar's (true NW7) who did have a dusting (with no scalp hair) that a lot of people were very critical of. I thought he looked good and I am confident you can deliver similar results, but it is gonna get expensive. I think you also had a similar one.

Personally anyone with either a family history of nw6 even, or who is currently at that stage of hairloss, should never even consider a transplant. It becomes a no win proposition at that point, you need a HUGE area covered and you also need a HUGE Amount of grafts. compared to guys with nominal hairloss, yet you have the least amount of donor hair among all classes of hair transplant patients

but there are tons of guys in this position who will stupidly go get a transplant and no shortage of greedy docs too happy to take his money

the guy has already lost like half his donor thickness on the sides.......he has lost about 60 percent of his hair to an almost bald state

a strip? are you nuts,

this guy needs to just shave his head and adjust to his problem
much better than butchering his scalp. still looking bald, and wasting about 50,000 dollars, and then continuing to bald rapidly, and being forced to waste even more money and look even more desperate

isnt there some point at which you guys say, hey just better to look naturally bald

is there no level on the NW scale at which you just toss in the towel?

Well said. This is when the limitations of hair transplant really start to show. There's no point trying to rescue a NW6 unless the patient is fully aware of what is involved and what he can get out of this. Hair transplant is still a primitive procedure any way you slice it, we need hair multiplication for someone this bald.

Vineet - NW 6/7 - hair restoration

Dr. Arvind, he will need every help that he can get. Strip, FUE, body hair, beard hair, you name it. Body hair will be best used as filler to blend in the hair that he still has on top and near the crown. Body hair should also be mixed with regular scalp hair for the frontal 1/3. Then Scalp hair only to build the hairline or frame the face.

If like a strip is indeed used to get the max # of grafts possible, I think beard hair can be used to fill in the strip scar.

He is a handsome guy with a nice shape head. Going bald or cutting the rest of the hair real short is not a bad idea for him. Shave it and wait for hair multiplication. I hope you presented this as an option to the patient.

I think you are referring to our patient Sphinx. Yes, he had 7000 fine body hair grafts transplanted over a NW 7 area.

Hi V, That is exactly who I was thinking about. I think one key difference here is that Sphinx had very fine and thinning hair on the sides and his very thin top was not contrasted too badly with his sides. This guy has pretty thick coarse hair on sides (although thinning).

In regards to the guy at the top of the thread, Hangin is right. This guy is not a decent HT candidate. (I'd go so far as to call him almost a worst-case scenario for that matter.)

He looks very young for that much loss, he's clearly going NW#7, he's most of the way there on top, and even the side areas look visible affected by MPB already.

And on top of all that, his face/head shape looks better than average for buzzing down. That's really the last nail the coffin as far as I'm concerned.

In my opinion it would be a crime to put a strip-scar on this patient's head in an era when there is still no viable HM available.
