My Experiences (Dr A) and My Questions (Hair Transplant)

posted by iratnm, 21.03.2011, 22:23

Hello there,

Thanks for running this amazing website and giving impartial information to the public. I wish i had these information in hand before i did my first hair transplant back then in 1999.

Here is my hair transplant story....

I did my first hair transplant in Delhi when i was 23 years old and it was by the punching technique. I don't have words to explain the horror it left with me for years. It's not just the result it’s the procedure itself. The doc didn't even know that i had to be on drips while the surgery is performed he just asked me to take a glass of water. The next four weeks was hell i had an infected throat that turned red and took time to recover.

I did my second hair transplant in Madras (Chennai) in Apollo hospital. It was a strip technique where the doc took hair on one side of the back leaving out the area where punching technique was performed. The results didn't last longer.

By this time the internet was full of information about hair transplant and the experiences. I did my research and wanted to put everything right this time for the final time.

I had my third hair transplant operation in 2005 with Dr Arvind in his Delhi clinic. I was expecting it to be my final one and i told him so. We decided to go for a procedure of 2500-3000 follicles via strip technique. Hair was stripped from one end to the other end on my back (donor area). He did some correction to the front hair line as well.

The results looked good the first year especially the front hair line correction.

However I have been losing hair for the last 3 years, it’s worse than ever now. It looks like a Norwood 6/7 category. I have attached images below

I don't know what’s next now for me as i have lost loads of hair from the donor area. What are my options? I have a few questions to ask. Hope the forum members can help me here

Questions

1. How many hair transplant strip surgeries can be performed on a person is there a limit? What are the side effects of doing too many?

2. Looking at my latest photo can you suggest me between another hair transplant strip surgery ( as FUE is too expensive to me ) and a hair replacement system. I have to say this I rather have half full hair in my head than to maintain a hair piece.

Looking forward to your reply

Now here are some of the lessons from my hair transplant experiences
It does not necessarily have to be the case with you but i thought i would still share these

Dont's

1. Don't go for a hair transplant surgery very early in your life. I did that mistake and I'm regretting it now. Delay it as much as possible.
2. Don't do it with any surgeon do your research and find the best doc who can do it to your budget.
3. Don't take any internal pills to grow hair. It's not worth it. I tried propecia and didn't see any difference except that it made me feel a little bit down.
4. Don't use any special cream or shampoos to your hair. If you do decide to use oil or shampoo then go for the mild ones like baby shampoo
5. Don't wash your hair everyday this may not be true to everyone but if you are losing hair then try alternative days or once in a week hair wash.

Do's

1. Do your research read as much as possible not just about the surgeons but also about the procedures and the latest on hair restoration? I find this website very informative.
2. Keep a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced food. One that's overlooked often. I agree that genetics has some effects on our hair but it’s also true that good nutrition and healthy body results in health hair.
3. Last but certainly not the least do not stress yourself. Again it’s not worth it. What you are worried about at this very instance you won't remember in a couple of years’ time so just stop worrying and start doing something about it. It may not be as easy as it sounds but try.

Expecting to hear from you
